The State Shortages Dashboard is a convenient way to view school psychology workforce data for US states and territories. The NASP 2020 Professional Standards recommend a ratio of 500 students to 1 school psychologist. This ratio is consistent with research showing that school psychological services decrease as ratios of students to school psychologists increase (Eklund et al., 2017; 2020).

The national ratio for the 2022-2023 school year is 1119 students to 1 school psychologist.

This dashboard contains data obtained from the following sources: 

• Salary data was obtained from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
• Number of school psychologists and students, used in calculations, was obtained from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). 
• Graduate education data was obtained from the NASP School Psychology Graduate Program Database. A report on this data is available in NASP Research Reports.
