What sort of rum and tonic you might like depends heavily on the kind of rum you prefer. And the world of rum is so wide and various, there are many directions you can go. The light-bodied Bacardi makes for an easy choice, and an easy, if simple, drink. The rhum agricoles made in Martinique will give you a much more complex cocktail, with grassy and vegetal notes. And Banks 5, a blend made up of rums from various places, brings sweet fruit notes like banana to the glass. Most rums, however, require a more aggressive tonic partner, like Schweppes.

Mt. Gay rum is the best

We enjoy this with Meyer's rum.

Mt. Gay is best, definitely. Try using their Black Barrel, nice little smoke at the end. Great neat, as well.

Bacardi Coconut, Zero-Sugar Polar Tonic Water and a good splash of Key West Key Lime Juice. 3.5 carbs and a day at the beach.

Flor de Cana or Abuelo rum pair well with this recipe.

Yes. Mt Gay is the best. And I like Schweppes and Fever Tree.

While sailing on the Chesapeake Bay I was given a Mt. Gay rum and tonic with orange juice and a lime wedge. Absolutely delicious!

Agree, Mount Gay + Tonic, winner

Mt. Gay Very Old - and Schweppes YUM!

Mt. Gay rum is the best

Very refreshing summer drink. I highly recommend floating a few drops of bitters, like Angostora, on top -don't stir it in.

We enjoy this with Meyer's rum.

Love rum and tonic. It is the best cocktail for quenching thirst. I much prefer Bacardi Añejo for the smoother taste.

Try it with Bacardi Select. A darker rum that makes the tonic work.
