The APAGS Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity (APAGS-CSOGD) aspires to build, strengthen and empower its members through the use of innovative technologies, collaborative advocacy, and inclusive practice. APAGS-CSOGD provides resources to LGBTQA students in psychology at all stages of graduate school.

The APAGS Committee for the Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Diversity (APAGS-CARED) exists to promote a psychology pipeline that is representative of the nation’s ethnic diversity. APAGS-CARED develops resources to ensure that students of color are empowered throughout their graduate career.

  • We offer resources on our blog, including two videos about the health service internship experience. We offer a webinar recording with two international early career psychologists reflecting on their experiences navigating racial discrimination in U.S. graduate training. The Science Student Council also published a list of tips for managing the stress of graduate school as an international student.
  • We produced a December 2018 webinar in which we consulted with attorneys about common questions regarding visas and other immigration legal questions; you will have to enter your name and email address to access the recording. The attorneys who presented from Hughes, Socol, Piers Resnick and Dym also shared an article explaining some of the legal issues (PDF, 416KB).
  • APPIC produced a case study recording of a Canadian student seeking to complete internship in the United States.

APAGS hosts a number of substantive programs and social activities geared specifically toward graduate students in psychology. A blog for all psychology students—APAGS has a blog which seeks to connect psychology graduate students and focus on issues of importance to APAGS members. The blog features many stories written for and by students. Posts range from the lighthearted, such as how to cope with Voledmort as your advisor, to the more challenging, such as how to deal with real-life setbacks.
