The River Gate,[1] also known as the Mud Gate,[2] is a gate in the southern wall of King's Landing that opens at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush.

History[]

House of the Dragon: Season 1[]

On Aegon's second nameday, the baggage train for the royal hunt masses at the River Gate.[1]

Game of Thrones: Season 2[]

Tyrion Lannister predicts that the Mud Gate will be the focal point of King Stannis Baratheon's attack because it is weak and easy to land near.[2]

It is where the Battle of the Blackwater mainly takes place, as Stannis and his forces attempt to take King's Landing through the gate, but are repelled by the city's defenders led by Tyrion and reinforcements from the Lannisters and the Tyrells.[3]

In the books[]

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the River Gate is located near the center of the southeast wall of King's Landing.
