The Grand Sept,[1] also called the Great Sept,[2] was a sept in King's Landing. It is the predecessor to the Great Sept of Baelor.
History[]
House of the Dragon: Season 1[]
Viserys tells his wife Aemma about a dragon dream. He mentions the bells of the Grand Sept tolling as their son is crowned king.[1]
Rhaenyra and Alicent pray together in the Grand Sept.[3]
After the death of King Viserys, Mysaria hides Prince Aegon underneath an altar in the Grand Sept to be retrieved by Arryk and Erryk Cargyll.[4]
In the books[]
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the sept atop Visenya's Hill was built during the reign of Aegon I Targaryen and sponsored by the High Septon in Oldtown. It is unknown what exactly happened to it when Baelor the Blessed built his Great Sept. The sept isn't officially called the "Grand Sept," but is described as a "grander" sept than the one the smallfolk built in a sunken cog in the Blackwater Rush.
