I cover the people and issues behind the sports people love. I’m particularly interested in who has access to power and how they wield that power, as well as how athletes navigate their brands and ambitions. I love examining the human side of the business.
My Background
I joined The Times in 2021 as the national N.B.A. reporter and moved to the Business section in 2023.
Before joining The Times, I covered the Los Angeles Lakers for my hometown newspaper, The Los Angeles Times. I have also covered the N.F.L. and NASCAR, as well as college and high school sports.
I grew up in Arcadia, Calif., and have also lived in Louisville, Ky., Orlando, Fla., Jacksonville, Fla., and Houston. I received a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from Northwestern University. In 2022 I completed a master’s degree in mass communications from the University of Minnesota.
Journalistic Ethics
As a Times journalist, I adhere to the standards of integrity outlined in The Times’s Ethical Journalism Handbook. I strive to be accurate, fair and thoughtful in my work. I protect my sources. I seek to include and understand a diverse set of voices.
In a new memoir, Rich Paul, known to many for his long association with LeBron James, details his difficult upbringing and the valuable lessons it taught him.
