Portrait of Catrin Einhorn

Catrin Einhorn

I focus on issues related to wildlife, ecosystems and nature. Biodiversity, the variety of life on the planet, is suffering enormous losses as humans transform the world’s lands, waters and atmosphere. I write about the plants, animals and people on the front lines, and the forces behind the scenes.

Before joining the climate and environment team, I spent more than a decade at The Times working on long-term projects that came to life in various combinations of print, video, audio and interactive elements. Some of that time was focused on the military, culminating in a documentary called “Father Soldier Son” that you can find on Netflix. I was also part of a team of reporters that received the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for exposing sexual harassment and misconduct in the American workplace.

I grew up in Chicago and started my journalism career at Chicago Public Radio, where I eventually covered housing and immigration. I speak Spanish and I’m learning Welsh.

Respect and empathy are very important to me. So is scrutiny. I strive to understand issues from multiple perspectives and to represent them fairly and accurately. I work hard to include nuance.

I feel proud to work under the mission of The Times: To seek truth and help people understand the world. Our mission is rooted in the underlying belief that journalism can make society stronger and more just, and I am committed to the high standards outlined in our Ethical Journalism Handbook.
