Twins 7, Rays 6: Carlos Santana walks it off

The Twins fell behind early but fought back and ultimately walked it off.

Pablo Lopez didn’t get off to a great start tonight. After a single and a walk, Randy Arozarena blasted a 3-run homer in the top of the first. In the 3rd, they strung together three singles to make it a 4-0 game.

Meanwhile, the Twins batters were busy going 0-9 with runners in scoring position through the first 3 innings. Though, a couple of those were bad strike three calls by the umpire.

The Twins finally broke through in the 4th inning. After loading the bases, Willi Castro hit a bases clearing double, then Trevor Larnach hit a double of his own to tie the game at 4-4.

Unfortunately, the game didn’t stay tied for very long, as Brandon Lowe hit a solo homer over the wall in right-center field to make it 5-4, Rays. A few pitches later, mother nature decided to open the skies and we were sent into a 1 hour and 23 minute rain delay. Out of the break, Jay Jackson took over pitching duties for the Twins in the 5th. Josh Lowe greeted him with a solo home run to center to give the Rays a 6-4 lead.

Max Kepler got us within one run with a solo blast to center leading off the 5th. Later in the inning, Ryan Jeffers hit a sac fly RBI to tie the game up. The Twins bullpen cavalcade of Jackson, Alcala, Jax, and Duran kept it tied going into the bottom of the 9th.

Manuel Margot started the inning with a single. Two outs later, Correa singled on a grounder to the pitcher, Pete Fairbanks, that hit him in the hands. Fairbanks had to exit the game, so the Rays brought in Phil Maton. Carlos Santana pinch hit for Jose Miranda and lined a game winning single into right field to give the Twins a walk-off 7-6 victory!

Studs:

Carlos Correa: Just another casual 3-4 day for the AL Player of the Week. He also doubled, walked and scored a couple runs. In his last 7 games he’s hitting .581/.618/.903.

Willi Castro: 2-4, 2 2B, BB, 3 RBI

Austin Martin: 2-3, BB, SB

Carlos Santana: The walk off hero!

Duds:
