Senior editor Tim Teeman was nominated for four awards: Journalist of the Year, Theatre Critic, Personality Profile (for this article on ground-breaking comedian Bob Smith who is suffering from ALS), and Obituary (for this article on George Michael). Entertainment editor Melissa Leon was nominated for two awards, for Celebrity Feature (for this article on the Aliens cast remembering Bill Paxton), and her analysis of Sofia Vergara and Latina stereotypes. Entertainment writer Amy Zimmerman was also nominated for two awards, one for this article on New York’s comedy scene and sexual harassment, and the other for her analysis of Brad Pitt as a “sad dad.” Entertainment and culture writer Ira Madison III was nominated in the Critic of the Year—Film/TV category. In the ‘Celebrity Investigative’ category, reporter Kate Briquelet, with M.L. Nestel, were nominated for their article on Nate Parker’s rape case; while staff writer Matt Wilstein was nominated for his interview with comedian Tig Notaro about the then-rumors of Louis C.K.’s sexual misconduct; and Chris Lee for his article on what happened when Prince made a hotel chambermaid his “queen for a day.” The LA Press Club’s National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards Gala will take place on December 3 at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
