Kim Newman Sight & Sound Chris Hemsworth makes an imposing, good-humoured Thor... but the motor of the film is Tom Hiddleston's complex, conflicted Loki. Jul 10, 2018 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Witty, charming and very current, the big screen adaptation of Thor is sure to catapult its star Chris Hemsworth (whose wife, Elsa Pataky, ironically stars in Fast Five) to leading man status. Rated: B Sep 8, 2017 Full Review Rafer Guzman Newsday Let's hope Branagh was well-compensated, at least. To quote his favorite author: No profit grows where is no pleasure taken. Rated: 2/4 Apr 12, 2013 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson It's a grand, epic, and galaxy-bending display of gods among men. Never before has a superhero movie been so, well, super in its scope and size, yet still leaving room for a little dose of humanity. Rated: 4/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Noah Berlatsky Everything is Horrible (Substack) Rewatching now, it feels charmingly self-contained and coherent compared to many of its increasingly bloated successors. Aug 5, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Branagh delivers more than anyone likely expected from a Thor comic adaptation, achieving a hugely entertaining success through his obvious understanding of both comic book and Norse mythologies. Hattie S This is probably the best Thor movie but honestly, the most boring Marvel movies to watch. It was okay. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/28/24 Full Review matthias s **Movie Review: Thor (3.5 stars)** As a big comic book fan, I was excited and a bit worried about "Thor." Marvel did a good job bringing the God of Thunder to life, even if it wasn't perfect. Chris Hemsworth plays Thor well, showing both his strength and his journey to become humble. The special effects are amazing, especially the scenes in Asgard, which look grand and magical. Watching Thor use his hammer, Mjolnir, is a treat for fans. The movie's pacing is uneven. The switch between Asgard and Earth feels awkward. The Earth scenes aren't as exciting, and Thor's romance with Jane Foster feels rushed. However, Tom Hiddleston's Loki is fantastic. He adds depth to the story and is a great villain. Director Kenneth Branagh adds a dramatic touch, focusing on themes of betrayal and family. Overall, "Thor" is a good start for the character, earning a solid 3.5 stars. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review josh d Fairly okay. Worth a watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review DAX T Very underrated. Thor as a character has some of the best development for a first movie only second to stark. But that shouldn’t be a surprise. There’s the occasional annoying or pointless character, but outside of that, (and the annoying amount of Dutch angles) I have no real problem with this film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Cristina A Another amazing marvel movie... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Charlie M Not a ton to say besides that this isn’t bad, but it’s before these characters and stories reached their strongest points. A decent enough origin. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
