My expertise is in writing about people who are accused of serious crimes — from fraud and political corruption, to the abuse of women and children — but my role allows me to write about a wide range of topics. Sometimes, my stories are short-term investigations that stem from breaking news events, while other projects can take many months of reporting.
I’ve worked on the Metro section since I joined The Times in 2019. I started covering courts and criminal justice issues and then switched to a role writing about the economic and political forces shaping New York City’s recovery from the pandemic.
In 2023, I completed a six-month stint as a foreign correspondent covering China while based in our Seoul bureau.
Before joining The Times, I worked for seven years at The Wall Street Journal, where I focused on federal law enforcement and national legal issues. I was part of a team that won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in national reporting for stories about secret payoffs made on Donald Trump’s behalf to two women.
I spent my childhood moving throughout the United States, primarily in Georgia, Pennsylvania and Indiana. I graduated from Northwestern University, and I’ve also taught at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
