Portrait of George Gene Gustines

George Gene Gustines

I love shining a light on the world of comic books, whether it is about characters who have been around for decades or efforts by new publishers to attract an audience. My day job is supporting the Photo desk at The Times as an operations and strategy deputy.

I’ve been with The Times since 1990 and a confirmed nerd since 1981. My journalistic training has been largely on the job, for which I’m grateful.

I grew up on superhero comics, which have themes of right and wrong, and have characters that live by codes of ethics. Similarly, as a comics reporter for The Times, I’m committed to upholding the standards of integrity outlined in our Ethical Journalism Handbook. I know I can’t be Superman, but I strive to be Clark Kent.
