Promising young striker Marc Guiu has passed his medical, according to Fabrizio Romano’s latest “exclusive” twitterings, and should thus be set to join Chelsea imminently ... or as soon as we pay the €6m release clause in his contract.

The 18-year-old had had chats with Bayern Munich and Sevilla, too, and was also offered an extension by Barcelona, but he has decided to leave his boyhood club and join us instead. It’s not quite clear what led to this decision on his part — he had made his senior debut last season and was a regular part of Barcelona’s matchdays squads throughout the winter and early spring, but that all changed in the last couple months. And now we’re here.

It’s also not exactly clear what role we might be targeting for the 18-year-old at the start. His transfer has been painted at times as just an opportunistic bargain (given the low buyout), but the youngster also plays in a position of need and obviously has plenty of promise and an excellent pedigree. He’s expected to sign a six-year deal, though 2030.

But first we have to have the official announcement anyway.
