If you’re looking for an excuse to wolf down that double-cheese pizza for lunch, you may have found it in a news story that’s gone viral. Among the headlines: “Cheese Is as Addictive as Cocaine,” “Cheese Really Is Crack,” and “Study Finds That Cheese Is Just as Addictive as Drugs.”
The problem is that the study cited in these stories found no such thing.
This week SABMiller, the world’s second largest beer company, agreed to a $104 billion merger with the globe’s top brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev. If regulators approve the deal, it will be not only the biggest beer acquisition ever, but one of the top five mergers in history.
The U.S. is the most incarcerated country in the world. The past 40 years of criminal justice policy have yielded crowded prisons and broken lives. The sentences have gotten longer and harsher, and too often we’ve chosen criminalization and incarceration over investment in our communities and human development. As a result of these policies, nearly 1 in 3 Americans have a criminal record that shows up on a routine background check.

sending humans there is not just a grand dream but an achievable one, we
shouldn’t kid ourselves about just how deadly a place it could be. Here
are a few of the things that make living on—and merely getting to—Mars
so risky.

In a basement in the Jordanian capital of Amman, three young men are
