Abuse 101

Abuse 101

Abuse is when someone uses their behavior or influence over another person to cause harm or to exert power over them, especially when that behavior is repeated regularly. Abuse can occur in many forms (physical and emotional) and happen in many settings. It can happen to us or to someone we know and love and is often hard to recognize because too often it comes from someone we know and trust.

Confronting Abuse

The most important thing you can do when it comes to abuse is to find a way to tell someone what’s going on. Help is available through people you know or crisis hotlines. You’re never alone and it’s never too early or too late to get professional help. Don’t wait for the abuse to escalate and become more violent or even fatal.
