Maud Farris-Luse (née Davis; 21 February 1887 – 18 March 2002) was a validated American supercentenarian, the 65th-oldest person ever, and the oldest living person from 6 June 2001, the death of Marie Bremont, to her own death on 18 March 2002, at the age of 115 years, 25 days.
Biography
Maud Muriel Davis was born in Isabella, Michigan, USA on 21 February 1887 as the daughter of Franklin Chester and Adella Jenkins Davis. She married Jason Ferris in Steuben, Indiana on 27 June 1903 and had six children: Charles, Esther, Walter, Clair, Dale, and Lucille. She lived in Indiana for several years before returning to Michigan. She was widowed in 1951 and remarried to Walter Luse in Dorrance, Branch, Michigan on 25 September 1952. She was widowed again three later.
At the age of 100, Farris-Luse still fished, which she had done since a young age. At the age of 104, Farris-Luse moved into a nursing home. At the age of 110, she sent a letter to French Supercentenarian (and oldest person ever) Jeanne Calment. In her final years, Farris-Luse was confined to bed and could not understand speech anymore, but still enjoyed visits. In 2001, her family gave permission to the Harvard school of medicine to take her blood for research.
Maud Farris-Luse died in Coldwater, Michigan, USA on 18 March 2002 at the age of 115 years, 25 days. She was survived by five generations, including her latest-born and only surviving daughter.
AGE REVALIDATION
In August 2023, after reviewing documentation discovered by Jimmy Lindberg, the GRG reached the conclusion that Farris-Luse was probably a month younger, born on 21 February 1887.
