Vogue World 2024 Live Updates: Red Carpet Coverage, News & Highlights

For the third year in a row, Vogue staged a fashion and performance extravaganza known as Vogue World. The 2024 edition of Vogue World promised a rollicking stylish and energetic good time; conceived in collaboration with youth athletic academies throughout France and inspired by the history of sports and fashion.

“If Vogue World: New York was a street fair, and Vogue World: London was a glamorous night at the theater—supporting arts and cultural organizations in London—Paris will be a kind of opening ceremony; one that celebrates 100 years of fashion and sport, as well as this extraordinary city," said Vogue Global Editorial Director and Condé Nast Chief Content Officer Anna Wintour at a press conference in February.

The event took place on the Place Vendôme in the center of Paris on June 23rd at 3pm EST. Cara Delevingne hosted the Vogue World 2024 livestream—you can relive every moment from the red carpet and the livestream on the liveblog here.

Let Vogue World: Paris Inspire Your New Beauty Look

Would you be surprised to know Diana Ross was on Pat McGrath's moodboard for this 1970s makeup look?

Christina Fragkou

“It’s a decade-by-decade extravaganza of some of the most iconic looks I’ve created for the runway,” says Dame Pat McGrath, creative director of make-up direction at Vogue World Paris. “It’s a nod to my greatest hits, but each with a spin to a specific decade and sport for that section of the show.” The makeup artist known to all in the industry as “Mother,” of course delivered. From gunmetal-gray glitter studded with diamanté for the 1960s fencing section of the show to the disco ball-inspired eyes, McGrath masterminded myriad incredible looks for Vogue’s Paris celebration of style and sport.

Tonight, the Vogue World 2024 event in Paris, held in the famed Place Vendôme, brought out a stylish crowd of celebrities in the front row. From their VIP seats, A-listers took in a one-of-a-kind show that paired various sports—including cycling, gymnastics, tennis, and fencing—with a century of French fashion, going back to the 1920s. An emphasis was placed on French designers, both contemporary and historic, and there were even a few surprise performances, too.

While the runway show delivered plenty of striking fashion moments, the looks worn by guests in the crowd were equally impressive. The best dressed stars of the night leaned into fun and drama. Highlights included livestream host Cara Delevingne, who revived the conical bra in a Jean Paul Gaultier couture look by Simone Rocha. Emma Chamberlain dared to wear a revealing Rick Owens design complete with an itty-bitty bra top. Other stars went classic, including Alexa Chung in an archival rose-themed gown from Viktor & Rolf’s fall 2005 collection.

Flashback to 1989

Anok Yai

Victor Boyko/Getty Images

Anok Yai walked the runway in a custom tri-color Alaïa dress. It married look 20 from Pieter Mulier’s fall 2024 collection, which was like a couture version of a slap bracelet, only elegantly wrapped around the body, with a dress Azzedine himself had created for the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution.

Backstage at Pavillon Cambon where all the models from the show got ready, seamstresses were working on final touches on the pieces so that they were perfectly fit for Anok ahead of the show.

But that wasn't all! French athlete Marie-José Pérec, closed out the festivities in a recreation of that very same 1989 dress. You can learn more about it here.

The Battle of Versailles

At the Palace of Versailles, Helmut Newton photographed actor Patrick Honoré of the Comédie Française on the Queen’s staircase with models in, Vogue wrote: “Halston’s pale green sequined evening dress with short butterfly sleeves; Bill Blass’s grey sequined evening dress bordered in sable; Oscar de la Renta’s bright green charmeuse evening pyjama; Anne Klein’s red silk jersey evening dress; Stephen Burrows’s red sequined evening dress with a yellow feathered jacket.”Photographed by Helmut Newton, Vogue, December 1973

What started as a 1973 charity event pitting five French designers against five Americans became a turning point in fashion. The unfussy ease of the US looks predominated, and the Black models who wore them won the day.

Two models walk in Vogue World: Paris

Victor Boyko/Getty Images

Here’s something you may not know about the signature silhouette we all associate with the 1950s—it was actually born in 1957; the same year that Christian Dior passed away and a young designer by the name of Yves Saint Laurent took his place. During this era, fashion reached its most glamorous height of the 20th century reflecting the world’s eagerness to leave wartime rations and austerity measures behind. The world was in dire need of beauty and the fashion industry surely delivered.
