Donald Trump has reportedly commuted the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old woman serving a life sentence in prison without parole for a first-time drug offense. Johnson was the subject of a recent meeting between Kim Kardashian West and the president at the White House last week. Kardashian West was initially moved by a Mic report on Johnson, who has been incarcerated since 1996 in federal prison in Alabama. Kardashian West partnered with Jared Kushner, who has advocated for sentencing reform for nonviolent offenders, to try and convince the president to pardon Johnson.

In the days after the meeting, it was unclear whether or not KKW’s advocacy had worked on behalf of Johnson (and the media’s attention was turned to the release of her husband’s latest album, Ye, celebrated with a bonfire in Wyoming). But Axios has reported that Trump has indeed granted Johnson clemency. Kardashian West tweeted in the wake of the story, “BEST NEWS EVER!!!!”
