Do You Need a Horse Bag?

Baggu and New York–based brand Collina Strada teamed up to create five different bags, a pop-up tent, a puffy picnic blanket, a pouch set, and a bath towel. The limited-edition drop consists of 16 items you can already find at Baggu, though these feature funky designs from Collina Strada’s original print archives and AI-designed plaids. And the true star of the show? A miniature horse bag that comes in two colors, plaid yellow and solid black, is a first of its kind and sure to go quickly. It’s a horse-girl summer after all.

Do I Need the Baggu x Collina Strada bag?

Yes. I have at least six items from Baggu and I use them all religiously, so if you’re into the prints, this is an easy yes.

Since its launch in 2007, Baggu has evolved to be one of the most coveted items among Gen Z, mostly for its sustainability focus. I see at least one of its products on every three people while walking around New York City, and yet it feels like a product that everyone can have and still be cool. The collaborations go quickly — like its 2023 collab with Sandy Liang, which sold out in seven minutes — but are very much worth it, especially if you’re already a fan of the brand.

This collaboration feels like a long time coming, especially since both brands have a focus on sustainability. All bags in the collection are produced with at least 59 percent recycled material and feature extra-long straps and special metallic detailing. Our managing editor, Rachel Bashein, got her hands on the pop-up tent. While she says, “Of course you don’t need it (don’t be silly),” she recommends it, especially if you’re already in the market for a cute pop-up tent to take to the park or beach. As for me, I’ll be using my standard Baggus every time I go to Trader Joe’s or Target, and I haven’t taken my horse bag off since I’ve gotten it. Despite the miniature title, it really does fit a lot.

What’s the price?

The pricing is good as every bag is under $100, and they’re only a little bit more expensive than Baggu’s other bags not included in the collaboration. Plus, Collina Strada bags are normally over $500.

How do I get the Baggu x Collina Strada collaboration?

Starting June 25, you can shop the collection online at baggu.com and in Baggu stores in New York and California.

What are people saying about the Baggu x Collina Strada collaboration?

Some people are excited, unsurprisingly. One account commented on the Instagram announcement by saying, “maybe u should have direct access to my bank account,” and another said, “If I don’t get a horse bag I’ll cease breathing.”

Other people are discussing the use of artificial intelligence in generating the prints, and sharing their disappointment over that decision from the brands, especially since AI is bad for the environment and these brands pride themselves on sustainability. Collina Strada spokesperson Lindsey Solomon responded in a piece from the San Fransisco Gazetteer, saying that the AI program Midjourney was used to “mix two old Collina Strada prints together to get unique results.” However, Baggu has not released a statement or responded for a comment on any of their platforms.
