Syracuse, N.Y. ― Buddy Boeheim, the former Syracuse University basketball standout, has signed a new Exhibit 10 deal with the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.

The signing comes two days after the Detroit Pistons had waived Boeheim. The 6-foot-6 guard had spent the last two years in the Detroit Pistons’ organization, moving between the Pistons’ NBA roster and also playing for Detroit’s G-League affiliate.

Oklahoma City’s signing of Boeheim was first repoted by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Boeheim had one year remaining on a two-way deal that he signed with Detroit back in February.

Boeheim, who played at Syracuse from 2018 to 2022, had played for both the Pistons and the team’s G-League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, over the past two years.

As a rookie in the 2022-23 season, Boeheim played in 18 G-League games and 10 games with Detroit while on a two-way contract. The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 12.1 with the Motor City Cruise, making 37.4% of his 3-point shots. In his limited time in Detroit, Boeheim averaged 1.6 points per game.

After being waived by Detroit following his rookie year, Boeheim signed a new Exhibit 10 contract with the Pistons last August.

In February, he signed the new two-way deal for the remainder of the 2023-24 season as well as next year. The two-way deal allowed Detroit to put Boeheim on the Pistons’ roster as needed. In 10 games, Boeheim averaged 3.4 points and made 32% of his threes.

The timing of Boeheim’s signing with Oklahoma City will allow Boeheim the opportunity to play with the Thunder in the NBA Summer League, which runs from July 12 to July 22 in Las Vegas.

Being on an Exhibit 10 deal means Boeheim will likely participate in the Thunder’s training camp. It is a one-year deal with an NBA minimum salary.

Exhibit 10 deals are usually non-guaranteed. Oklahoma City can convert the deal to a two-way deal, but must do so before the start of the regular season.

The Thunder will control Boeheim’s G-League rights as well. If he spends 60 or more days with the Thunder’s G-League franchise, Boeheim will be eligible for an additional $75,000.
