Some of the most notable names in local and national sports have passed away in 2016.

Syracuse University basketball fans mourned the passing of Dwayne 'Pearl' Washington in April.

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali passed in early June.

Gordie Howe, known as 'Mr.Hockey' and one of the greatest players in NHL history, passed away in June.

Arnold Palmer
, a seven-time major winner and one of the most popular golfers of all-time, died in September at the age of 87.
