Part of the fun of shopping for clothes online is having a variety of options. Unlike some brick-and-mortar stores, clothiers that sell on the web can pivot quickly with shifting fashions, which has made it easier for people to spruce up their wardrobes quickly. Enter Coofandy, a brand that uses its online retailer status to its full advantage by regularly updating their selections.

Now that the warm summer months are here and the mood is all about beating the heat, we wanted to test whether their selections really can keep up. Coofandy sent me a few pieces from their current lineup, and here's what I thought about them.

An essential component of Coofandy’s branding is how frequently they rotate styles—a strong selling point for people who prefer a surplus of options to choose from.

“High quality and low cost” are sentiments used across the site, evident in the vivid colors and fabrics and the low- to mid-range price tags. From an entire line of linen clothing to an impressive range of tracksuits, there’s something for every man at Coofandy.

What I liked about Coofandy

Coofandy has lightweight, versatile fabrics in an impressive range of styles.

There are plenty of unique options

Many online retailers claim to have a wide range of options, but men’s clothing styles are usually fairly limited. Coofandy, however, did not disappoint.

There is an array of linen pieces, a line of stretch cotton shirts, a ton of activewear, and even a few longline shirts that have the look and feel of a tunic. I wish I had tiptoed further outside of my comfort zone to try some of these options, but the zaniest item I tried was the Linen Tank Top. I live in a beach town, so the drawstring, tunic-style tank felt like a chance to stay cool and turn a few heads—and I certainly achieved both!

The linen is very lightweight

I’ve tried on a lot of linen garments, but there’s always something off about them. Sometimes it’s that the textile is rougher than I’d like; sometimes it’s the way they hang on the body—it’s become a crapshoot that I keep going for anyway.

Coofandy’s Linen Style Beach Pants might just be the perfect linen pant for me. Not only did the fabric breathe, but it draped well in all the right places. I’m on the thinner side, so loose-fitting pants can sometimes look too oversized, but the opposite was true with these. These pants will definitely become a staple in my beachwear rotation.

The colors were all a complementary neutral

With the exception of a few brightly-colored tops, such as their Hawaiian Cotton Floral Shirt, the color palette was easy for me to choose from. As someone who tends to shy away from vivid patterns, I really liked that a majority of Coofandy’s clothes were either solid-colored or tastefully-relaxed patterns, like the Cotton Linen Beach Button Down Shirt with Pocket that I tried in gray stripes.

The fit of the Coofandy Linen Tank Top wasn't ideal for me.

The fit wasn’t always ideal

The risk of online shopping is that sizing may not be an exact science. As a skinny guy with long limbs, I’m always torn between a medium or a small just to make sure there isn’t a lot of excess fabric hanging off of my body. With Coofandy, I went with small across the board to hedge my bets.

For example, I tried the Casual Regular Fit Lightweight Linen Blazer in a small, hoping the sleeve lengths were close to the dimensions written on the site, but the overall fit itself was enormous on me: Boxy on the sides, overstuffed shoulders, and too much room across the back. If I tried their blazers again, I would try on an XS and roll up the sleeves to mid-length to keep them from looking too short.

I had a similar issue with the Linen Tank Top. While I was still able to wear this one without it being too obviously oversized, I had to finagle it into shape to get it to work—and ultimately wore a button-down on top of it.

The packaging caused everything to wrinkle

Every item came in a plastic, air-compressed sleeve, which was good in theory because it saved a lot of space. On the flip side, it caused everything to be almost unusably wrinkled. While that might be fine with cotton and cotton blends, thicker linen blends hold wrinkles. If you own an iron, this shouldn’t be too bad, but if you’re like me, ironing is the very last step before deciding to wear something else.

Coofandy is a great option for folks who want to experiment with new styles without a huge expense.

Yes, if you’re looking to try something outside of your wheelhouse

A brand like Coofandy is a solid option for people who are interested in venturing outside their comfort zone, but are put off by high price tags. With most items—including their more expensive options—coming in at a comfortable $25-$30 range, you can test out all kinds of fabrics and styles without worrying too much about price.

With so many style options, you’re bound to bump into something you’d never wear, so keep that in mind with Coofandy. It’s sort of like shopping at a chic thrift store, where all the clothes are branded for men, but not everything appeals exactly to your tastes. If you can see past those options, you’ll definitely find something cool to try.
