This strategy will help✨ Drop the word ⚠️ BLEND ⚠️ below ⬇️ for a link to my “Scooping Mats” AND teaching slides seen ⬆️ Can your child read each of these sounds /c/a/t but can’t blend them together? And might say random words instead- car, cake, house? 😬 Never fear! Successive blending is here! This has been a game changer in my classroom! Some readers need more support with short term memory. These readers can read /c/a/t but when blending the phonemes together they may say “car” or “catch” or another similar word. If this happens take a step back and do this: 1. Read each sound adding on one letter at a time 2. Scoop the first and second sound together, then add the final sound 3. 1.) Teach the letters in frequency order and not all at once.
2.) Call the letters by their sounds, not by their names.
3.) Use lowercase letters first.
4.) Always put the vowel in the front or middle if teaching the short sound.
5.) Use the pencil reading blending technique as taught in the Learn Reading program.
Much more to come! 🤗🤍

Teaching gestures with letters, in particular vowel sounds (because they are so important and SO tricky) has been a game changer! If you are teaching littles, learning English or teaching English as a second language, you MUST include gestures! Sher Marshall on Instagram: "😱 I didn’t teach some of these correctly for literally decades. I know many of us make the mistake of adding an “uh” sound after a letter sound. 🚫 For example, we say “buhhh” for the letter B. I teach students that we need to take our scissors and just clip off that extra sound (and then we clip it off with our pretend finger scissors). 👶 If we add that extra sound, then “baby” would be pronounced “bu-ay-bu-ee”. 📌 Save this so you can be sure your kids know the right sounds! #alphbet #lettersounds #preschool #learningletters" Phonic Sound Activities, Phonics Writing Activities, How To Teach The Letter A, Letter Phonics Activities, Teach Phonics Preschool, How To Teach Letters And Sounds, Alphabet Sounds Activities, Learning Boards For Kindergarten, Teaching Sounds Of Letters
