Nutrition experts often recommend seafood for kids and pregnant mothers since it is a rich source of vitamins, minerals, omega 3 fatty acids, and proteins. Despite being a rich source of nutrients, studies show that some types of seafood contain mercury, a substance that can impair the development of fetus’ nervous system. Mercury has a similar effect for kids aged below six years.

On first glance this might not look like much, but it's actually a very interesting specimen. The metallic blobs are native mercury resting on dark red Cinnabar, which is mercury silfide. Mercury is a liquid at room temperature, so the drops move freely on the surface. Really great, though unfortunately mercury vapors are toxic... so specimens such as this have to be kept in a sealed container. Almadén Mine, Almadén, Ciudad Real, Castilla La Mancha, Spain - Fantastic specimen with hundreds of shiny, metallic mercury drops on dark red cinnabar. You know that mercury is liquid in room temperature. So the drops will surely move while the specimen is shipped. You can just pour the drops back on the specimen. But be careful: it can also turn into poisonous vapor. Always keep in a closed box. I had this one in a fridge.
