Clock Tower (1995) is a 2D psychological horror game. It was unique among adventure games of the era in that it features a slasher villain stalker called "Scissorman" pursuing the player; this delays puzzle solving and requires the player (controlling Jennifer Simpson) to run in order to find objects or hiding places to fend off or avoid the Scissorman. If confronted by Scissorman, Jennifer enters a "panic" phase, and the player must pound the "panic button" to struggle with the attacker.
