To date, the most devastating tsunami occurred on December 26, 2004 in the Indian Ocean, with a death toll directly attributed to the tsunami (tsunami) of approximately 230,000 people. The areas most affected were Indonesia and Thailand, although the destructive effects reached areas located thousands of miles Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and even Somalia, in East Africa.
