Fort Montgomery State Historic Site
Fort Montgomery State Historic Site is located on the west bank of the Hudson River near Bear Mountain in Orange County. Fort Montgomery was a fortification that was built by the Continental Army during the American Revolution. It was one of the first strategic construction projects by the Americans. The fort was commanded by General George Clinton.

After its recovery from the bottom of Lake Champlain in 1935, the fifty-four foot long Philadelphia, armed with three cannon and eight swivel guns, was moved to the newly constructed building housing what is now the National Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution.

Molly Pitcher - Mary Ludwig Hays McCauley - Born: October 13, 1754, in New Jersey Died: January 22, 1852, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania - Mary Ludwig Hays earned the nickname “Molly Pitcher,” becoming one of the most popular female images of the Revolutionary War. - Mary trudged back and forth from a nearby spring bringing water to the soldiers on that hot and smoky battlefield. Welcoming the sight of the sparkling water, the weary soldiers nicknamed her “Molly Pitcher.”
