I over-research stuff, yet reading reviews is maddening. You think you've found a good item, and then you read the 1-star reviews. Well, to cut to the chase, I wasn't going to spend this much money (even w/coupon) and was going to get a ~$20 unit. I've got "real speakers" all over the house and back yard, so this is just for portability. Anyway, I took the plunge on this one based on everything I could put together from Reddit, enthusiast publications, and these reviews. I'm glad I did. Fakespot pans the review quality here, but I ain't no 'bot, so here's a short story:
- Build quality is solid (see teardown videos on Youtube/unit has some heft/even the packaging is nice)
- Sound quality is really good (subjective I know, but there's some Youtube comparisons out there and you can geek out on frequency response charts on Reddit)
Cons: If you want the best sound out of it, re-flash the firmware down one revision. Not that the firmware it's now shipped with is bad (v5.0), but the last version (v4.8) has more neutral frequency response. You can find the charts if you want to deep dive. Well, you have to geek out a bit if you're going to flash firmware. It's not hard, and you can find everything you need by searching for "Earfun Uboom L" and spending a little time. I just reflashed the firmware on mine from 5.0 to 4.8 and it didn't take very long at all. YMMV. The only other thing I might note is the control buttons aren't illuminated or even painted. The on/off, bluetooth, volume, etc. buttons are embossed black rubber...not a visual standout so you may be getting close to the unit to read them until you're familiar with it. Lastly, there's no carry lanyard or some such if that is a factor in your search.
All in all, I think this thing puts out excellent sound for the money. It's definitely in a whole different league from the $20 units I was looking at. But! (There's always a "but" isn't there?), if you're hung up on the firmware thing - specifically if you don't think it sounds as good with v5.0 that is loaded currently, AND messing w/computers, utility programs, and cables is not for you, then you might want to spend more bucks (maybe double?) on another unit. As noted, you can find the instructions on line and see if you'd want to do it. Sorry for not putting links to all these references, but I found 'em pretty quickly so if you're interested, you won't have a problem finding more info than you'll need.
As noted, I'm quite happy with it despite the caveats. I have zero buyer's remorse on this one.
And as for the quality of product reviews, if I were a 'bot, would I know who won the 1938 World Series? Oh wait, that's the question they ask in those bad WWII movies to find the spy...

When I first found out about this speaker and discovered it was tuned my the great Olaf from Oluvs gadgets I knew I had to own one. When the speaker arrived to me it came in a JBL style box and inside you will find the speaker, and owners manual and a USB c cable. I immediately took the speaker out of the box and after several attempts and a replacement speaker, I was able to update the firmware on my original speaker. The speaker looks great and has a great layout and design, it reminds me of a center channel you would have in a 5.1 sound system at your home. The only disappointment I have is I wish it had a lanyard or carrying strap since this speaker doesn’t weigh as much as my JBL Charge 4. On the top you will find a power button, Bluetooth button, minus button, multifunction button, plus button and, indoor/outdoor button and battery indicator lights. On the back of the speaker you will find a rubber flap which protects the usb c charging port and aux in port and on the sides of the speaker is where you will find two JBL style passive radiators and on the front you will find a mesh grill with the EarFun logo and under is two 55 millimeter 14 watt drivers which together produce 28 watts total power which is 4 watts more than the original uBoom which only produced 24 watts total power it also has a 16 hour battery life. Now let’s move on to how it sounds. After several hours of listening to this speaker I have to say I’m impressed. The treble, mids and, lows all sound natural not overbearing on indoor mode and when you switch to outdoor mode, you get a boost in all aspects with bass, mids and, highs. Everything sounds crisp although I believe tweeters could have assisted with off axis listening and the sound dispersion. Olaf nailed it with being able to listen on any aspect and get the same result with sound. Phone calls are also clear on this speaker, the built in mic does a great job picking up my voice on phone calls and accessing Siri or google assistant. Overall I am impressed with this speaker, just wish they had some tweeters or app support with EQ settings you can toggle such as Oluv Signature tuning, Bass boost, custom EQ.

The EarFun UBoom L has became one of my new favorite speakers . I am so glad EarFun finally made another speaker. The company was definitely lacking another speaker since the EarFun go was discontinued and the original UBoom is now three years old. It was definitely time for a new speaker from such a great company that produces great sounding earbuds that I love and always have a set on me for daily listening. When I first found out about this speaker and discovered it was tuned my the great Olaf from Oluvs gadgets I knew I had to own one. When the speaker arrived to me it came in a JBL style box and inside you will find the speaker, and owners manual and a USB c cable. I immediately took the speaker out of the box and after several attempts and a replacement speaker, I was able to update the firmware on my original speaker. The speaker looks great and has a great layout and design, it reminds me of a center channel you would have in a 5.1 sound system at your home. Der Lautsprecher ich sehr gut Verarbeitet und fühlt sich in der Hand sehr solide an. Es ist vielleicht nicht der Hingucker, aber es soll ja klingen und nicht aussehen!
Es ist bis jetzt der grösster BT Lautsprecher in meiner kollektion (ich habe einen JBL und einen Denon) und er ist definitiv zu gross um Ihn einfach so mal in die Tasche zu werfen und überall mitnehmen, aber bei solchem Klang und Lautstärke ist es verständlich. Die größe entspricht ungefähr einer 1L Flasche - auf dem Fotos ist ein normales Feuerzeug als referenz.
Die größe hat auch vorteile - die Lautstärke (dazu komme ich später) und die Laufzeit. Mit einer voll geladenem Akku hat bei mir der Lautsprecher 3 Parties durchgehalten (ca. 15 Stunden insgesamt). Der Lautsprecher wird mit USB-C geladen und in 3-4 Stunden wird das Akku voll.
Die Bluetooth Verbindung ist sehr Stabil und die Reichweite ist gut genug für einen grossen Garten (Sehe Video Test#1). Einziges "aber" ist die Reichweite beim Stereo-Modus, und zwar nicht die Reichweite zwischen den Lautsprechern und dem Handy sondern die Reichweite zwischen den zwei Lautsprechern! Meine Idee war es die Zwei Lautsprecher an verschiedenen Seiten des Gartens zu platzieren und damit gute Lautstärke überall zu haben, aber dieses geht leider nicht weil, wenn die zwei Lautsprecher mehr als 5m getrennt sind bricht die wiedergabe auf beiden Lautsprechern. Dieses Verhalten ist gut auf meinen Video zu sehen im Test#2. Im Dual-Modus sollten die Lautsprecher also nicht weit auseinander sein - in meinem Fall habe ich beide auf einem Tisch in der Mitte des Gartens in gegenüberliegende Seiten gedreht, so das der Sound in beide Richtungen geht.
Das wichtigste an einem Lautsprecher ist aber der Sound und der ist in diesem Fall sehr gut!
Das Gerät verfügt über zwei einstellunge - Indoor und Outdoor. Im Indoor modus ist der Klang sehr dynamisch - der Bass ist voll und kräftig und die hohen töne sehr klar und akzentuiert. Wenns um den Klang geht kann der Earfun lautsprecher ohne Probleme mit deutlich teureren Lautsprechern verglichen werden - mein Denon klingt nicht besser als dieser Gerät. Die Lautstärke ist mehr als genügend für ein Wohnzimmer.
Im Outdoor Modus wird die Lautstärke höher und der Bass wird noch Kräftiger.
Auf der ganzen Lautstärke Skala klingt der Lautsprecher gut - sowohl auf der niedrigsten wie auch höchsten Stufe gibt es keine unangenehmen Verzerrungen.
Ich kann persönlich den Lautsprecher nur empfehlen - er klingt wie eine höhere Preisklasse und hat keine größeren Mängel (wenn man die Größe oder Stereo-Reichweite nicht als höchste prio sieht)
