John Boos Board Cream

Protects the life of your board!

Board cream is best used as the second step after a quick coating of John Boos Mystery Oil (sold separately on Amazon). John Boos Board cream is a thick and silky cream made from unbleached beeswax and food grade mineral oil. It will lock in moisture and leave a smooth barrier against future washings.

Easy to Use

Simply squeeze board cream from the tube directly onto the cutting board or butcher block. Use your hands, a paper towel or cloth to spread it across the board. This process is designed to mimic the special treatment every John Boos board and butcher blocks gets during the manufacturing process.

Quick Maintenance

Once the cream has had a few minutes to sink in, wipe off the excess. Your cutting board, butcher block or wooden utensil will look beautuifully moisturized and will be better protected for future use. Repeat as needed, and your Boos Cutting Board or Butcher Block will sure to become a heirloom piece to be enjoyed for years to come.

John Boos Oil & Cream: Complete Care for Wooden Cutting Boards, Utensils & More

John Boos recommends a very quick, simple and easy maintenance routine to protect and prolong the life of your John Boos cutting board or butcher block.

Use John Boos Mystery Oil first. The oil is absorbed into the grain, nourishing and preserving the board and restoring moisture lost through repeated washings.

Use John Boos Butcher Block Cream second to lock restored moisture in and leave a silky barrier against future drying, bleaching and cracking.

Both John Boos Mystery Oil and Board Cream are food safe and great for use on all types of wooden boards, utensils and more.

The History of John Boos & Co

In 1887, Effingham, Illinois blacksmith Conrad Boos used a Sycamore tree placed on three legs while hammering horseshoes. Three years later, a local butcher realized a wooden Boos Block could be used for cutting meat, and had one custom made. Word spread to surrounding small towns and cities and by 1911, John Boos & Co was shipping custom butcher blocks from coast to coast. Throughout the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, John Boos expanded their production and product range to include tables and workbenches, the majority of which went to the war effort during WWII. By the 1940s, John Boos had earned their outstanding reputation for quality and craftsmanship, and John Boos butcher blocks were found in every restaurant, food store and butcher shop in America. Today, the traditional craftsmen work ethic is still alive and well at John Boos, where all boards and butcher blocks are still proudly manufactured in Effingham, Illinois. Often imitated, John Boos boards and blocks are favorites of professional chefs and can be found in restaurants and commercial settings worldwide.

Product Description

Made in our home and crafted for yours, the John Boos 5-Ounce Boos Black Board Cream was designed to elevate and extend the use of your favorite wood kitchen tools. The John Boos Board Cream is made from all-natural ingredients, ensuring it’s safe for food-preparation surfaces. It penetrates deep into the grain of the wood to protect and revitalize the wood fibers, preventing the drying, splitting, and cracking of cutting boards, bowls, or kitchen utensils. Instructions: Apply an even coat of Boos Board Cream to all surfaces of your wood cutting board using an applicator. Allow the Board Cream to fully penetrate the wood fibers overnight, then wipe off any excess oil. Apply additional cream to any visibly dry spots. Use at least once per month (depending on the cutting board use and household conditions) and more often in dry or arid climates. Do not over-moisturize your cutting board. For additional protection, use Boos Block Mystery Oil (sold separately) to seal the top of the wood surface. Since 1887, John Boos & Co. products have been the choice for renowned chefs and restaurateurs worldwide. Through a legacy of workmanship, innovation, and devotion stemming from our founder to employees past and present, John Boos & Co. aspires to be recognized worldwide as a touchstone at the heart of cooking and the enjoyment of food.

This is my second purchase of Boo’s Mystery Oil and my first purchase of the Board Cream. This stuff is good stuff, and a little of it goes a long way! I own a big and beautiful Boo’s Block Mezzaluna Board. It’s a huge chunk of hickory, and I would weep inconsolably if it were to dry out and crack! So in order to prevent such theatrics, I do my homework, and keep the board, and every other wooden piece of kitchenware conditioned. The oil has a pleasant lemon smell. Yum. The last time I did my homework, I also oiled one of my wood fiber boards, just to see what would happen. I usually wash them in the dishwasher and the cut marks were really showing. It made the board look fantastic! It’s been through the dishwasher a few times now, and seems to be holding up.

Used it on three boards: two old one new. Now they all look new, and the wood feels great. No streaks or residue. Smells great. It’s easy to see how it will extend the life of the boards and keep them looking new. And I can’t imagine having to buy it again for years.

I didn’t buy this for wood; I bought it to condition the canvas of Louis Vuitton bags. It does such a nice job and brings the canvas back to life and adds depth and helps patina the vachetta evenly. It also protects it from water stains! Good stuff!

This cream is the key to keeping cutting boards and all untreated wood furniture clean, hydrated and feeling smooth. I have a black walnut kitchen island and I use this cream whenever I have a water stain or spot that needs treating. It’s also great on natural teak, leaving a beautiful scent free finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars It isn’t a gimmick

So. I really wasn’t sure why I got this as it seemed gimmicky and I wasn’t sold on it. Paper towel has to be just as good and as simple. I was wrong. This thing is amazing. The sponge itself is quite sturdy and I was surprised at how much better it worked over paper towel. It actually doesn’t feel like a sponge per say but more like a scouring pad. But it is still soft in a sturdy way. Anyhow, I put the usual amount of oil on my board I’m used to and using this showed me how much oil was soaking up in the paper towel. It isn’t a lie when people say they can use half of what they used to use. This was definitely a good purchase and I am glad I gave it a try. Worth every penny and will cut the other Boos stuff I use on my board in half easily. I know it’s not a display item really but it would be cool if it was available in the differing wood colour the boards come in. That’s just me liking matchy matchy stuff though.
