Manchester City are set to sign Savinho, also known as Savio, on a five-year-contract.

The 20-year-old has been part of the club’s City Football Group since 2022, but did not feature for Troyes and spent last season on loan at Girona.

The Brazil international will now become the first signing of the summer transfer window for City, where he will sign a long-term contract through to 2029.

How our writer's rated Gray's move to Spurs

Our transfer experts are rating this summer’s senior Premier League transfers in five categories, with each aspect given a score out of 100.

Following Archie Gray's move to Tottenham Hotspur from Leeds, here's a preview of how the midfielder got on...

Season rating: 63/100

Gray made a huge impression in his first full season as a professional last year, and it should come as no surprise he was one of England’s most in-demand young players this summer.

He made 44 appearances (40 starts) in the Championship, playing as a central midfielder and right-back under Daniel Farke. He was named Leeds United’s young player of the season, the Championship’s apprentice of the season and the Championship’s young player of the season.

Risk or reward? 75/100

Tottenham have won big with the signing of Archie Gray.

He is one of the most promising talents in the world in his position. He is the type of press-resistant, highly technically proficient central midfield player England rarely produces.

There are obvious questions regarding his experience and a lack of sample size regarding his injury record, though a clean bill of health last season is encouraging.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Archie Gray from Leeds United.

Spurs struck an agreement which will see Gray, an England Under 21 international, join the club and Joe Rodon, the defender who spent last season on loan at Elland Road go the other way.

Leeds have indicated the two deals are separate with Spurs set to pay £40million for Gray and Rodon heading the other way for £10m. The Spurs view is that they are paying £25m-30m for Gray with Rodon part of that agreement.

Brighton optimistic on keeping Germany internationals Gross and Undav

Brighton optimistic on keeping Germany internationals Gross and Undav

Brighton remain optimistic about keeping hold of German European Championship squad members Pascal Gross (pictured) and Deniz Undav.

The Athletic revealed last month that the club is in talks with Gross about a contract extension for the 32-year-old midfielder and that they control a buy option in the loan agreement with Stuttgart, where striker Undav excelled last season.

New head coach Fabian Hurzeler has held talks with his fellow countrymen and wants both players to stay. Brighton's technical director David Weir says the chances are "very high" that Gross and Undav will remain at the club.

Weir added: "They are contracted to Brighton and they are players that have done well for us. Deniz has been out on loan and I think everyone has seen how well he's done there (18 goals and ten assists in 30 league games for Stuttgart).

"So, they are two players that we are expecting to be back with us and looking forward to being part of our squad. A lot of things have been written and said, but ultimately nothing has changed from our perspective. They are players we really like, Fabian has spoken to both players. We really hope they will be here moving forward."

How good of a signing is Dewsbury-Hall for Chelsea?

Our writers — experts in transfers, tactics, data and football finance — have come together to rate this summer’s senior Premier League transfers in five categories, with each aspect of the move given a score out of 100.

Here's a snippet of how new Chelsea recruit Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall fared...

Tactical fit — 75/100

Under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea are expected to adopt a 4-3-3 formation with a single pivot, allowing two advanced No 8s to play between the lines and attack the final third. This system is familiar to Dewsbury-Hall, as he played as the left-sided No 8 for Maresca at Leicester. Maresca’s tactical demands of freedom and fluidity for his No 8s unlocked Dewsbury-Hall’s creative potential.

Risk or reward? 63/100

While Dewsbury-Hall joins a pretty stacked midfield group at Chelsea, there is potential for more than one of his competitors to depart before the summer window closes at the end of August.

What Chelsea’s sheer number of players in midfield means, however, is that Dewsbury-Hall may not be given the opportunities needed to flourish.

Chelsea have completed the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City.

The Athletic reported on Sunday Chelsea had reached an agreement with Leicester for the 25-year-old midfielder for a fee of £30million ($38m). He has now signed a six-year contract to keep him at the club until 2030.

Dewsbury-Hall is regarded as an ideal fit for the style of football Chelsea want to play under new head coach Enzo Maresca, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge earlier this summer.

The 23-year-old is into the final year of his contract at the Ligue 1 club, who preferred to secure a transfer fee this summer rather than risk losing Thuram as a free agent next year.

The central midfielder — whose father Lillian played for Juventus during his playing career and whose older brother Marcus Thuram currently plays for Inter — has yet to pass any medical and has not signed any deal, with all parties yet to sign paperwork on a contract that will last through to 2029.

Burnley in advanced talks to appoint Scott Parker as new manager

Burnley are in advanced talks to appoint Scott Parker as their new manager.

The Athletic reported in June that Parker was on an initial shortlist to replace Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor alongside Frank Lampard and Liam Rosenior. A number of other candidates including Ruud Van Nistelrooy and current acting head coach Craig Bellamy have also held talks, but Parker has now emerged as the club’s preferred candidate.

The 43-year-old has been out of football since leaving Club Bruges in March 2023, having won just two of his 12 matches at the helm of the Belgian club.

Hibernian midfielder Ewan Henderson has agreed a deal to join Belgium Pro League club Beerschot in a permanent transfer.

Henderson, 24, spent last season on loan at Oostende — the second tier side which has now been declared bankrupt — where he made 35 appearances and scored four goals.

The attacking midfielder's time in Belgium led to interest elsewhere in the country and now a fee in the region of £150,000 plus add-ons and a sell-on percentage has been agreed with Beerschot. While personal terms are agreed, the move is subject to work permit approval and Henderson completing a medical before a formal announcement can be made.

Henderson joined Hibs permanently from Celtic — where he came through the academy — after an initial loan in 2022. He didn't travel on the club's pre-season tour to the Netherlands to allow the move to advance.

Beerschot are managed by former Liverpool and Netherlands forward Dirk Kuyt. The Dutchman led the Saudi owned club to promotion to the Belgian top flight in his first season. Beerschot are controlled by Abdullah bin Mosaad Al Saud, who also owns Championship club Sheffield United.

Beerschot have been approached for comment.

Darko Gyabi has re-joined Plymouth Argyle on a season-long loan from Leeds United.

The 20-year-old midfielder spent the second half of the 2023-24 campaign at Plymouth, making 10 Championship appearances, before his season was curtailed by a groin injury.

A Leeds statement said Gyabi "will now look to reignite that form and gain more valuable first team experience".

The England youth international joined Leeds from Manchester City in 2022 for a fee in the region of £5million, shortly after midfielder Kalvin Phillips had moved in the opposite direction.

Gyabi has made just five appearances in all competitions for Leeds and was limited to one Championship cameo during the first half of last season before he moved to Plymouth.

He will work under new Plymouth head coach Wayne Rooney after he was appointed Ian Foster's successor this summer.

Why did Chelsea target Dewsbury-Hall?

Why did Chelsea target Dewsbury-Hall?

Michael Regan/Getty Images

Analysis from Simon Johnson and Rob Tanner

Dewsbury Hall's displays under Maresca for Leicester in the Championship last season led to him being voted the club’s player of the year and players’ player of the year (and The Athletic’s Championship player of the season).

It is no surprise Maresca is on board with this pursuit, but Chelsea have not just decided to go along with it to keep the Italian happy. Dewsbury-Hall fits the system Maresca likes to use and provides something different to what they have in the squad because he is a left-footed midfielder.

In Maresca’s plan, the high central midfielders play key roles. With the holding midfielder and inside full-back anchoring in front of a back three, it is up to the central midfielders to play in between the lines and link the attack with the wide players and the lone striker. Under Maresca, Chelsea will attack with a five and defend with five.

At Leicester, Dewsbury-Hall was encouraged to get into the box, to contribute goals and assists, while Wilfred Ndidi offered a little more defensive insurance if the attack broke down and the opposition countered. It paid off. Dewsbury-Hall scored or assisted 29 per cent of Leicester’s 89 goals as they clinched automatic promotion to the Premier League. He scored 12 times, a target that was part of a bet with Maresca. His prize? A dinner paid for by the Italian.
