Enjoyable game, that. I don't think Ecuador have quite clicked in the way they will want to — Kendry Paez was relatively quiet and the full backs fell back after the interval especially — but they can think about that in the next game. For now, they are up and running, which is exactly what was needed after the defeat to Venezuela.
Jamaica put up a good fight and will feel they should have had a penalty, but they will remain bottom of the group tonight.

Incredible goal. Minda's little touch past his man, the pace to motor clear, the finish... I actually thought he might have passed at the end — he had two teammates with him — but you can't argue when the guy buries it in the bottom corner.

Hard to understand that decision

Well, Ecuador have got away with one there.
The referee awarded a penalty to Ecuador in the first half for a hand ball at point-blank range, and has now decided not to give one to Jamaica for a... hand ball at point-blank range. Quite a baffling decision really, not helped by the fact that the referee's microphone did not work while he explained his decision.
Decision-making struggling under stress

Ecuador clearly have a lot of technical players but their decision-making in the final third has been poor. Case in point: Moises Caicedo simply had to roll the ball to Kevin Rodriguez there, but instead went the other way and Jamaica were able to scramble clear. Pressure: it does funny things to even very good players.

Huge surge of noise from the stands after that VAR consultation. The feeling, clearly, is that that was a lucky escape.
With 14 minutes remaining, Ecuador would do well to push on in search of a third goal, because any semblance of defensive solidity has disappeared since the interval.

The referee spent a good amount of time reviewing the play on the monitor but has opted not to award Jamaica a handball!
Replays showed the ball struck Franco's face around the same time it struck his arm, that's likely what kept the play from being clear enough to give a penalty.

A couple of the Ecuador players look shattered. After that Jamaica attack, right back Angelo Preciado just stood there, hands on knees, panting. I wonder whether playing for so long with 10 men against Venezuela in their first match has taken it out of them a touch. Either way, Jamaica will hope to capitalise.
