July 28

Mississippi State: Former SMU defensive coordinator Van Malone has accepted a senior defensive analyst position at Mississippi State, a person with direct knowledge of the situation tells The Athletic’s Chris Vannini. Malone spent the past three years at SMU and had recently joined St. Michael’s Academy in Austin, Texas.

Alabama: Nick Saban has received a new contract through 2025, raising his salary from $6.725 million to $7.5 million, with annual raises of $400,000. He will also received a “contract extension / championship signing incentive” of $800,000 this year and additional contract completion payments of $800,000 after the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons.

New Mexico State: Head coach Doug Martin has signed a new four-year deal through 2021. Martin, who entered last season in the final year of his contract, received a three-year extension last fall and took the Aggies to their first bowl game in 57 years.

July 26

Ohio State: Quality control assistant and former Ohio State receiver Brian Hartline has been promoted to interim wide receivers coach. In addition, program assistant Corey Dennis has been promoted to senior quality control assistant, working with quarterbacks and receivers.

Michigan State: Former NFL kicker Shayne Graham has been promoted from special teams intern to special teams analyst at Michigan State.

July 25

Air Force: Alex Means has joined the staff as assistant defensive line coach. Means is a former Air Force player and spent last year coaching linebackers at the Air Force prep school.

Oregon State: Quality control assistant Brian Wozniak has been promoted to tight ends coach, filling the opening left when Mike Riley accepted a head coaching job in the Alliance of American Football. Wozniak spent the past three years as a graduate assistant on staff and played tight end at Wisconsin from 2010-13.

July 23

Ohio State: Wide receivers coach Zach Smith has been fired following the surfacing of multiple past allegations of domestic violence and a civil protection order recently filed by his ex-wife. Smith had been on Urban Meyer’s Florida and Ohio State staffs for 11 years since 2005.

July 18

Nevada: Cornerbacks coach Courtney Viney has left the program for an off-field job at another school, and quality control assistant Mike Chamoures has been promoted to safeties coach. Chamoures joined the staff last year.

July 9

San Diego State: Former SDSU quarterback Ryan Lindley and former defensive end Jordan Thomas have joined the staff as defensive graduate assistants.

July 5

Kansas: Former Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long has been named AD at Kansas. Long led the Arkansas department from 2008-17 and was previous the AD at Pitt from 2003-07. At Kansas, he has a five-year deal worth $1.5 million annually.

June 29

Texas A&M: Arkansas recruiting operations coordinator Danielle Braswell has joined Texas A&M as on-campus recruiting coordinator.

SMU: Athletic director Rick Hart is staying at SMU after receiving interest from Kansas, according to USA Today’s Dan Wolken.

June 26

Louisiana-Monroe: Georgia assistant director of player development Bakari Guice has been named safeties coach at ULM. Guice spent the past three seasons at Georgia and was previously a high school coach in Monroe, La.

South Florida: College Football Playoff chief operating officer Michael Kelly has been named athletic director at USF. Kelly was an associate AD at USF from 2001-02 and has been with the CFP since 2013.

Maryland: Executive athletic director / chief financial officer Damon Evans has been promoted to athletic director at Maryland. Evans joined Maryland in late 2014 and had been serving as acting AD since April.

June 21

Fresno State: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletic director Terrance Tumey has been named AD at Fresno State. Tumey had been leading the unified CMS program since 2016.

Florida Atlantic: Lane Kiffin has signed his 10-year contract with FAU, according to the Miami Herald. The contract pays him $950,000 annually before bonuses. His buyout if he leaves for another Power Five job is $2 million before Dec. 31, 2018, dropping $500,000 each successive year.

Syracuse: FAU director of player personnel Landan Salem has joined Syracuse in the same role, and previous director of personnel Dave Boller is now director of recruiting operations.

June 19

Oregon State: Tight ends / assistant head coach Mike Riley is expected to become the head coach of the new San Antonio franchise in the Alliance of American Football, according to the Sporting News’ Alex Marvez. The AAF begins play next spring.

Oklahoma: Head coach Lincoln Riley has received a new five-year contract worth $25 million, which will pay him $4.8 million in 2018. That’s up from $3.48 million in 2017, including bonuses.

Stephen F. Austin: Head coach Clint Conque has been suspended indefinitely pending an investigation into alleged violations of university policy. No other details have been revealed. Conque has been at SFA since 2014.

June 13

Virginia Tech: Texas A&M senior defensive analyst Tyrone Nix will join the Virginia Tech staff as safeties coach, a person with direct knowledge of the situation tells The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman. Nix has previously worked as the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss, South Carolina, Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg first reported the news. Nix will earn $200,000 annually, according to the Roanoke Times. Previous safeties coach Galen Scott earned $338,000.

June 12

Virginia Tech: Pitt director of recruiting Mark Diethorn will join the Virginia Tech staff as director of player personnel, a person with direct knowledge of the situation tells The Athletic’s Matt Fortuna.

Ole Miss: Texas State defensive line graduate assistant Victor Irokansi has joined the Ole Miss staff in the same role.

Texas A&M: Former Alabama director of recruiting Leah Knight has joined the Texas A&M staff in the same role. Knight spent one season at Alabama after two years at Colorado State and had stepped down in February.

UMass: Director of football operations Paul Gorham has passed away. He spent the last four years at UMass and was the head coach at Sacred Heart from 2004-11, before stepping down due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a respiratory disease that led to a double lung transplant and double leg amputation.

June 8

Oklahoma: Assistant athletic director for football operations Matt McMillen has retired after 19 years in the role.

June 7

Texas A&M: Former LSU general manager Austin Thomas has been cleared to begin work at Texas A&M in a recruiting role, a person with direct knowledge of the situation tells The Athletic’s Chris Vannini. Thomas had previously been close to joining the Tennessee staff and then Ole Miss, but was delayed in getting cleared for Texas A&M due to the NCAA’s Individual Associated with a Prospect rule.

Idaho: University of Sioux Falls linebackers coach / special teams coordinator Mike Breske has been named inside linebackers coach at Idaho.

June 6

Arkansas: Former Toronto Argonauts defensive coordinator Corey Chamblin has joined the Arkansas staff as a quality control assistant. Chamblin was the Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach from 2012-15, winning the 2012 Grey Cup.

Michigan State: Central Michigan quality control assistant and former NFL kicker Shayne Graham has joined the MSU staff as a special teams intern.

XFL: NCAA executive Oliver Luck has been named CEO / commissioner of the XFL. Read more here.

North Dakota State: Missouri State wide receivers coach Jason Ray has been named wide receivers coach at NDSU.

June 1

Utah: South Florida athletic director Mark Harlan has been named AD at Utah. Harlan had been at USF since 2014.

Eastern Illinois: Syracuse graduate assistant Adam Gristick has been named linebackers coach at EIU. Gristick is a former EIU player.

Stephen F. Austin: Austin Peay athletic director Ryan Ivey has been named AD at SFA.

May 27

Kansas: Tampa Bay Buccaneers scout Pat Perles, former Oakland Raiders safeties coach Brent Vieselmeyer and former Kent State director of football operations Dayne Brown have joined the Kansas staff as analysts.

May 22

Tulane: Head coach Willie Fritz has received an extension through 2023. Fritz is 9-15 in two seasons at Tulane, including 5-7 last year. The Advocate previously reported that Fritz’s initial contract was a six-year deal worth more than $1 million annually.

Southern Utah: Defensive coordinator Rod Chance will participate in an NFL Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a person with knowledge of the situation tells The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

May 21

Ball State: UConn athletics chief operating officer Beth Goetz has been named athletic director at Ball State. Goetz has been at UConn since 2016.

Buffalo: Former Kent State co-defensive coordinator Jeff Burrow has been named director of player personnel at Buffalo. Burrow spent 2011-17 at Kent State.

Kansas: Athletic director Sheahon Zenger has been fired, and deputy AD Sean Lester has been named interim athletic director. Zenger had been the AD since 2011 after serving as Illinois State AD from 2005-10. The release from the school also notes head football coach David Beaty will remain the coach for this upcoming season.

May 17

San Diego State: Graduate assistant Demetrius Sumler has been promoted to cornerbacks coach as the program’s 10th assistant. Sumler spent the past two years working with defensive and special teams.

May 14

Nevada: USC assistant director of player personnel Alex Collins has joined the Nevada staff as director of player personnel & recruiting.

May 13

Alabama: Nebraska director of recruiting operations Bob Welton will join Alabama as player personnel director, according to multiple reports.

Michigan: Director of communications and internal operations J.T. Rogan has left the program.

May 10

Oregon: Offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo has added the title of assistant head coach, safeties coach Keith Heyward has added the title of co-defensive coordinator, and defensive line / associate head coach Joe Salave’a has added the titles of co-defensive coordinator / run game coordinator.

Washington: Co-defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake has received a raise from $650,000 to $1.1 million in 2017 as part of a new three-year deal, according to the Seattle Times. His buyout owed if he leaves for a defensive coordinator after this season would be $2.2 million if it’s a Pac-12 job or $1.1 million outside the league. Co-defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski received a $25,000 raise to $900,000 as part of a new three-year deal, and offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan has a three-year deal worth $700,000 annually.

Arizona State: Former ASU defensive coordinator Al Luginbill has joined the staff as director of player personnel. The 71-year-old Luginbill was a coach from 1968-2003, including working at ASU from 1972-73 and 1979-84. For the past 12 years, he has run a private scouting company, and he is the father of The All-American contributor Tom Luginbill.

Arkansas: Former head coach Bret Bielema has continued to work with the New England Patriots after the NFL Draft and could be involved in coaching duties when minicamp begins, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

May 8

Georgia Tech: Former Georgia Southern offensive coordinator Bryan Cook has rejoined the Georgia Tech staff as a defensive analyst, and former Davidson (N.C.) head coach Paul Nichols has joined as an offensive analyst. Cook was Georgia Tech’s quarterbacks / B-backs coach from 2013-16 and was a graduate assistant from 2001-03. Nichols was Davidson head coach from 2013-17.

Florida: Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has a three-year contract that will pay him $1.39 million in 2018, with $100,000 raises the following two years, according to multiple reports.

May 7

Alabama: New offensive coordinator Mike Locksley will earn $1.2 million annually, and new defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi will earn $1.1 million annually, according to USA Today. In addition, head strength coach Scott Cochran has received a $50,000 raise to $585,000.

May 4

Maryland: Former athletic director Kevin Anderson will serve as interim AD at Cal State Northridge, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. Anderson resigned at Maryland last month and had been on leave since October 2017.

May 3

Georgia: Kirby Smart’s new contract is a seven-year deal through 2024 worth $49 million, averaging around $7 million per year. Smart is 21-7 in two years, reaching last year’s national championship game.

Miami (Fla.): Head coach Mark Richt has received an extension through 2023. Richt is 19-7 in two years with a Coastal division championship.

May 2

Chattanooga: Athletic director Mark Wharton has received a one-year extension through 2022-23. Wharton has been in the job since August 2017.

May 1

New Mexico State: Offensive graduate assistant Chili Davis has been promoted to defensive ends coach / co-special teams coordinator, and University of San Diego tight ends coach Ronnie Pentz has joined NMSU as tight ends coach.

April 30

UMass: Head coach Mark Whipple has signed an extension through 2020. Whipple is 12-36 in his second stint as UMass head coach.

Kentucky: Offensive coordinator Eddie Gran has signed a one-year extension through 2020, according to the Louisville Courier Journal. In addition, offensive line coach John Schlarman, defensive line coach Derrick LeBlanc, defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale and special teams coordinator Dean Hood have signed one-year extensions through 2019.

April 27

Virginia Tech: Co-defensive coordinator / safeties coach Galen Scott has resigned following the discovery of an extra-marital affair during recruiting trips.

Pitt: Athletic director Heather Lyke has signed a new six-year deal through 2024.

April 26

UAB: Alabama director of player personnel Jody Wright will join UAB as offensive line coach / run game coordinator / assistant head coach, according to AL.com and multiple reports. Previous offensive line coach Trey Clark has reportedly left the staff.

Purdue: Head coach Jeff Brohm has agreed to a two-year extension through 2024.

Southern Illinois: Former Rutgers offensive coordinator Jerry Kill has been named athletic director at Southern Illinois. Kill had been serving as a special assistant to the chancellor and was the head coach from 2001-07. He retired from coaching due to health concerns for the second time in December after one year at Rutgers.

April 25

Florida State: Western Kentucky special teams analyst Brock Willis and former UCLA graduate assistant Jon Bills have joined Florida State as analysts.

Eastern Washington: Former UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey has been named athletic director at EWU.

April 24

South Florida: Athletic director Mark Harlan has signed a new three-year contract through 2020-21.

April 23

Murray State: Head coach Mitch Stewart has announced several changes. Additions include Tennessee Tech quarterbacks coach Nick Coleman (offensive coordinator / wide receivers coach), former Lyon defensive coordinator Alex Suber (inside receivers coach), Eastern Michigan graduate assistant Tate Omli (safeties coach / special teams coordinator), East Central CC safeties coach Charles Jones (cornerbacks coach) and former Highland CC defensive coordinator Walter Vaughn (defensive line coach). In addition, linebackers coach Jake Johnson has been promoted to defensive coordinator, offensive line coach Brian Hamilton has added the title of assistant head coach, and wide receivers coach Carson Hunter has moved to running backs coach.

South Dakota: Head coach Bob Nielson has received an extension through 2020. He is 12-12 in two seasons, coming off an 8-5 year.

Kentucky: Freddie Maggard will join the UK staff as director of player development, according to Kentucky Sports Radio, where Maggard was an analyst. Maggard played quarterback at Kentucky from 1988-91.

April 19

North Dakota State: Head coach Chris Klieman has received a two-year extension through 2023.

Tennessee: Athletic director Phillip Fulmer has signed a four-year contract worth $1 million annually and a $100,000 annual retention bonus.

April 18

Missouri: Former Illinois offensive coordinator Garrick McGee has joined Missouri as an analyst, a person with knowledge of the situation tells The Athletic’s Chris Vannini. PowerMizzou first reported the move.

Alcorn State: Former West Virginia quarterback Pat White has joined Alcorn State as quarterbacks coach.

Hugh Freeze: SEC commissioner Greg Sankey has discouraged multiple conference teams from hiring Hugh Freeze, including Alabama, according to AL.com.

Washington: Athletic director Jennifer Cohen is expected to receive a raise soon, president Ana Mari Cauce tells the Seattle Times.

Florida Atlantic: Missouri executive associate athletic director Ryan Alpert has joined FAU as deputy athletic director.

April 13

Maryland: Athletic director Kevin Anderson has resigned. He had been on leave since October.

Eastern Washington: The two finalists for the athletic director job are interim athletic director Lynn Hickey and Utah Valley athletic director Vince Otoupal.

April 12

Arizona State: Former wide receiver Derek Hagen has joined the ASU staff as an offensive analyst.

April 11

Idaho: Director of football operations Brian Reader has been promoted to running backs coach, according to his Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.

Air Force: Col. Jennifer Block will serve as interim athletic director. Block currently serves as the reserve adviser to the superintendent.

San Diego State: St. Augustine High School (Calif.) head coach Richard Sanchez has joined SDSU as safeties coach / special teams assistant, SDSU director of player personnel Kevin McGarry has been promoted to defensive assistant, former San Jose State head coach Ron Caragher has joined SDSU as offensive quality control / on-campus recruiting coordinator, and former SDSU and CFL player Jerome Haywood has joined as defensive quality control / assistant on-campus recruiting coordinator. In addition, head coach Rocky Long has agreed to an extension through 2022.

April 10

Arizona State: Former Oregon State consultant and Arizona State assistant Dan Cozzetto has rejoined the staff as a staff consultant.

Army: Slotbacks coach Tucker Waugh announced he has been battling Parkinson’s disease for a few years, saying in a statement, “I am releasing this information solely because my symptoms are becoming more noticeable and have resulted in inquiries regarding my health.” Waugh hasn’t missed any practice or game time since his diagnosis.

April 9

Alabama: Per TideSports.com, the salaries for new Alabama assistants are as follows: defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski ($750,000), co-defensive coordinator Pete Golding ($650,000), co-offensive coordinator Josh Gattis ($525,000), defensive backs coach Karl Scott ($350,000), special teams coordinator Jeff Banks ($270,000), and quarterbacks coach Dan Enos ($200,000).

Cal: Air Force athletic director Jim Knowlton has been named athletic director at Cal, beginning May 21.

UCLA: Former UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel will become the head coach of a southern California team in the Alliance of American Football, according to The Sporting News.

Western Kentucky: Defensive coordinator Clayton White has added the title of assistant head coach.

April 7

Florida: Steve Spurrier will serve as a head coach of the Orlando franchise in the Alliance of American Football, which begins play in February 2019. He will remain in his role as an ambassador for Florida.

Fresno State: Former East Carolina defensive coordinator Kenwick Thompson has joined the Fresno State staff as linebackers coach, and special teams quality control assistant Lucas Gingold has been promoted to the 10th full-time assistant to work with running backs and special teams.

Georgia Tech: Head coach Paul Johnson has signed a two-year contract extension through 2022.

April 5

Virginia: Outside linebackers coach Kelly Poppinga has been promoted to co-defensive coordinator.

Ohio State: Urban Meyer has received a two-year extension through 2022, with a $1.2 million raise to $7.6 million. It’s the third-highest salary nationally.

April 4

Texas A&M: The school has paid Kevin Sumlin nearly $9.9 million for his buyout, according to the Dallas Morning News. His buyout was due 60 days within his firing. His contract officially ended on Jan. 10.

Boston College: Offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler has added the title of deputy head coach, and defensive backs coach Anthony Campanile has been promoted to co-defensive coordinator.

SMU: Former Parish Episcopal High School (Texas) head coach Scott Nady has joined SMU as a special teams analyst.

April 3

Idaho: Athletic director Rob Spear has been put on administrative leave for 60 days as the school looks into failures in handling sexual assault complaints in 2012 and 2013.

April 2

Michigan: Former offensive coordinator Tim Drevno will receive $250,000 for his resignation in February.

Ole Miss: East Central Community College assistant Clayton Karcher has joined the Ole Miss staff as a recruiting assistant.

Missouri State: Southern Arkansas defensive coordinator Trent Figg has joined the Missouri State staff as running backs coach.

East Tennessee State: Head coach Randy Sanders has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation, and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield has left the program to pursue other opportunities, according to WJHL.
