Ayoze Perez is expected to be ruled out of Spain’s clash against Albania in the European Championship on Monday due to a muscle injury.

The 30-year-old midfielder came on as a second half substitute in Spain’s 1-0 victory against Italy on Thursday evening.

However, the Real Betis star picked up a muscular strain to his right leg during the game, meaning it is now unlikely he will feature in his nation’s final group match at the Germany tournament.

Perez was selected to be part of Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad for Euro 2024.

The former Newcastle United and Leicester City star had a successful individual campaign for his club, scoring 11 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions for Betis.

Perez had initially joined Betis on loan in 2022-23, but following Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League at the end of that season, it was announced that he would be leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract.

He then joined Betis on a permanent deal last summer, signing a four-year contract.

Spain head into their clash against Albania having already qualified out of Group B following their impressive performance against Italy in Gelsenkirchen.
