Tottenham have terminated the contract of midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

The Athletic previously reported that the north London club were in talks with the 27-year-old over an early termination of his contract.

That has now been completed, bringing an end to the midfielder’s five-year stay at the club.

Tottenham said: “The club can confirm the departure of Tanguy Ndombele following the mutual termination of his contract, effective from 30 June, upon the conclusion of his current loan spell.

“We should like to wish Tanguy all the best for the future.”

Ndombele joined Spurs in the summer of 2019. He became the club’s record signing after completing a £55million transfer from Ligue 1 club Lyon.

However, the Frenchman failed to adapt to life at Tottenham, making 91 appearances during his two-and-a-half seasons at the club, scoring ten goals and providing nine assists.

He returned to Lyon for the second half of the 2021-22 season, before spending the following campaign on loan at Napoli and this campaign at Galatasaray.

Ndombele has not made an appearance for France since 2021. He has seven caps, but has not scored a goal or provided an assist for his country.
