The agent of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise has been given a six-month ban by the Football Association (FA) following an investigation into a contract agreed with the player’s former club Reading in 2019.

Glen Tweneboah, who is a registered intermediary still acting on behalf of Olise, was charged with misconduct after it was found he breached the FA’s agent rules when the forward signed a three-year professional contract with Reading in the summer 2019.

Tweneboah entered into an agreement that would see him eligible for a 10 per cent cut of Olise’s future transfer fee, which is prohibited by the FA’s rules. Only clubs and players, not agents, are able to benefit from such an agreement. No payment was ever made.

Tweneboah will begin a six-month ban on October 4 and was also fined £15,000.

The FA’s investigation has also resulted in Reading FC, the club’s former chief executive Nigel Howe, academy manager Michael Gilkes and club secretary Sue Hewett also being charged.

An independent commission found all charges to be proven and hit Reading with a £200,000 fine.

Howe has been fined £5,000 and has been suspended for 12 months.

Howe, who has previously served on the EFL board, has been working on behalf of Reading in recent months to help facilitate a takeover of the League One club and had previously hoped to see new owners in place, replacing current chairman Dai Yongge, by the middle of May.

Hewett and Gilkes, meanwhile, have each been warned regarding their future conduct.

Tweneboah is Olise’s long-standing agent and struck the deal that saw the winger join Crystal Palace for £8million in 2021. Last August, Tweneboah was also involved in Olise signing a new four-year deal.

Olise, 22, is attracting interest from around the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window opening and Tweneboah, who failed to overturn his suspension, will be free to broker any deal ahead of his ban coming into force on October 4.
