Detroit Pistons general manager Troy Weaver had an expletive-laced argument with a fan in the stands during the fourth quarter of the team’s 142-124 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night.
A video, taken by someone in the crowd, showed the fan saying, “You suck at your job.” During the exchange, Weaver said a few words with expletives before he asked security to remove the fan.

The fan had been pestering Weaver in the build-up to what was captured on the video, according to sources briefed on the exchange. Weaver ignored the fan’s first pass and then, on the second one, said something along the lines of, “I don’t come to your work and harass you,” the sources said. The moment captured on video showed the fan’s third time provoking Weaver.
The loss to Dallas moved Detroit to a 10-53 record on the season, tying the Pistons with the Washington Wizards for the worst record in the NBA. This is Weaver’s fourth season as Detroit’s general manager and he was tasked to take on the rebuild when hired in 2020. Since then, the Pistons have had 20-, 23- and 17-win seasons before this one.
The Pistons had a 28-game losing skid earlier in the season that was not only the longest single-season losing streak in NBA history, but also tied for the worst in NBA history. Detroit is also in jeopardy of having the worst record in franchise history, as the 1979-1980 team had 16 wins.
Given the lack of progress in the win column, there are questions as to whether Weaver will be the general manager after this season.
