NHL style power rankings: Max Domi, K’Andre Miller, Miro Heiskanen and others

NHL style power rankings: Max Domi, K’Andre Miller, Miro Heiskanen and others

Julian McKenzie, one-half of The Athletic’s NHL style rankings duo alongside Scott Powers, recently wrote a feature about two Boston Bruins players who are among the league leaders in style. It was no surprise to see Linus Ullmark and David Pastrnak as the subjects of that feature, considering how much we’ve raved about them in previous style rankings.

But as this week has shown, they aren’t the only ones worthy of our list. Bruins forward Jakub Lauko advocated for his teammate Hampus Lindholm when we spoke to him last week in Boston.

“Hampus shows up with nice stuff — crazy (stuff) sometimes, too,” Lauko said.

Sure enough, Lindholm made our list this time around. You will, however, find another outfit from Ullmark this week. And, surely, we won’t be waiting long until Pastrnak returns to this list.

Powers: Heiskanen was one of two Dallas Stars players to get our approval this time around. Nothing wild with him here, but the color combination works well. You usually can't go wrong with maroon in our books.

McKenzie: The maroon suit looks great on Heiskanen. I wish his tie was a different color, maybe something more fun. But the rest of the outfit is stylish, classy and different. Heiskanen earned himself some style points this week.

McKenzie: I really dig the darker mustard blazer. I wrote a piece earlier this week on Ullmark's and Pastrnak's fashion senses. Another challenger from the Bruins now appears for style king. Brad Marchand was an honorable mention this week, too. What is going on in Boston?

Powers: Boston and Toronto Maple Leafs players seem to be on this list more often than not. Like Julian said, it's the color of Lindholm's jacket that makes this one pop. I feel like I've been seeing more of this color in clothes, too.

Jonathan Huberdeau

McKenzie: I've seen the dark green blazer before from Huberdeau, but I don't know if we've ever ranked it in the style rankings. It's a great look from the $10.5 million winger.

Powers: The suit and color are great, but what caught my eye was the blue-and-silver pocket square. It's a splash of something different. It's cool to see him having fun with it, too.

Linus Ullmark

McKenzie: Ullmark already gave us a blue suit and overcoat in the previous style rankings. He opted for a similar look but with light green this time. It's really fun to see Ullmark try different things with his suits and the different color palettes.

Powers: If you haven't read Julian's piece on Ullmark, do so. It gives you great insight into why Ullmark wears what he does. For me, it's just the variety he brings. He mixes it up, and it almost always works.

Matt Duchene

Powers: Duchene and Ullmark probably have been picked by us for the rankings more than anybody this season. Duchene brings it again with this fit. He's a fan of double-breasted suits, and this pinstriped fit drips class. The tie and shoes help accentuate the green, too.

McKenzie: Are we just living in Duchene's world? He keeps impressing with outfit after outfit. My lone gripe is the white tie. Otherwise, this is solid.

Max Domi

(Courtesy of the Toronto Maple Leafs)

McKenzie: Domi is pretty underrated when it comes to our style rankings. He doesn't get the same amount of hype compared to Auston Matthews or Mitch Marner, but he has style. This week, he decided to give us a killer suit pattern, a nice, matching flat cap and pristine Air Jordans.

Powers: Domi's fits are often overshadowed by some of his teammates. (The Leafs have some solid fashion taste.) But this week, it's all Domi. I love how he nailed this look. A necklace can be challenging to pull off, but Domi does it. From the cap to the sneakers, this whole outfit clicks. You can tell he's at home with this look.

K'Andre Miller

(Courtesy of the New York Rangers)

McKenzie: The bucket hat is my favorite part of this ensemble. Miller's outfits are usually pretty cool, and this one doesn't disappoint. Not many other NHLers would think to rock a bucket with that type of drip, but not many NHLers are like Miller.

Powers: One of the things I respect most about Miller's fashion choices is his hats. A lot of players seem to top off their look with whichever winter hat is nearby. Miller put some thought into this, and the hat complemented the whole look. Of couse, the suit and tie are strong, but I respect the hat.

Powers: There was no doubt Merzlikins was in the building with this look. He went hard with the blue. You've got to respect the commitment. A pair of blue suede shoes might have gotten him even more points in the rankings, but this is a strong showing from the Columbus Blue Jackets goalie.

McKenzie: The crisp blues all over the outfit were a winner for both of us. I like the black Moncler hat, too. It's not flashy, but it still goes with the suit. So many players can ruin a good outfit by wearing the wrong hat. That's not the case here.

Ryan Lomberg

(Courtesy of the Florida Panthers)

Powers: I love being surprised by someone. I didn't know much about Lomberg's style, but then Julian introduced this photo to me and ... well, damn, Lomberg. Perfect suit for Florida, too.

McKenzie: A bright pink suit in the hot Florida sun. How could we ignore this? I didn't know Lomberg had this in him, but he did. It was just in time for Valentine's Day, too.

Sebastian Aho

(Josh Lavallee / Carolina Hurricanes)

McKenzie: It's a similar color to Heiskanen's suit, but Aho didn't need the tie. He just needed the suit, an open white shirt, all-white Saint Laurent sneakers and a dream. Winning mentality, winning drip.

Powers: This was back from the NHL All-Star Game, but we had to include the look because it was so good. Simply class and chaos from Aho.
