Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has called for world leaders to “end the massacres” and provide immediate humanitarian aid for Gaza.

Salah released a personal video message on social media in response to the events in the Middle East. This comes following the Israel-Gaza war, which escalated following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.

He said: “It’s not always easy to speak in times like these.

“There has been too much violence and too much heartbreaking brutality. The escalation in recent weeks is unbearable to witness. All lives are sacred and must be protected. The massacres need to stop. Families are being torn apart.

“What is clear now is that humanitarian aid to Gaza must be allowed immediately. The people there are in terrible conditions. The scenes at the hospital last night were horrifying. The people of Gaza need food, water and medical supplies urgently. I’m calling on the world leaders to come together to prevent further slaughter of all innocent souls. Humanity must prevail.”

Earlier this week, the Premier League confirmed that the first round of fixtures after the international break will see players, managers and officials wearing black armbands “as a mark of respect for all those affected” by the Israel-Gaza war.

There will also be a moment’s silence before kick-off in those games, which take place between Saturday, October 21 to Monday, October 23.

The Premier League will also issue guidance to its clubs later this week advising them to prohibit Israel and Palestine flags inside stadiums.

The league says the decision has been taken after it consulted with safety organisations and Jewish groups, with this being one of their recommendations.
