Four-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt committed to Duke on Thursday, becoming the third member of the Blue Devils' 2022 class, the first class for head coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer.

Schutt is the No. 107 player in the 2022 class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rating. The Yorkville, Ill. native joins small forward Dariq Whitehead (No. 6 overall) and center Kyle Filipowski (No. 15).

Assessing Duke's 2022 class

Brendan Marks, Duke and UNC writer: Of the three commitments, Schutt is the lowest-rated, currently sitting just outside the top 100, but he importantly plays in the backcourt.

Why does that matter? Because Duke stands to lose several of its key backcourt contributors after this season. It would not be unrealistic for all of Wendell Moore, Trevor Keels, and Jeremy Roach to leave after this year, depending on their respective successes. Schutt slots in as a key longer-term developmental piece for Scheyer.

Who else is a priority for Duke?

Marks: After Schutt, the focus for Duke turns to five-star forward Mark Mitchell, who recently included Duke among his college finalists. That would be quite the coup — and statement — by Scheyer in his first full recruiting class. Three potential five-star, one-and-done talents, right after Coach K walks out the door? Talk about no drop-off.

Also, Duke is going to need this many commits, when you figure how many of its current players may depart for the NBA or graduate after this season. Expect Scheyer and Co. to lean hard into Mitchell now, and then go from there.
