Leicester City have confirmed the signing of winger Tete from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 22-year-old has signed on a deal until the end of the season after spending the first half of the campaign on loan at Lyon.

It was a complex transfer to complete as FIFA had suspended his contract with Shakhtar after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and extended that suspension for this season, allowing him to sign for clubs around Europe.

Leicester had to deal with Lyon and agreed a compensation package for the rest of this season, although it is unclear at this stage what will eventually happen with his Shakhtar contract.

FIFA are expected to reassess the rules regarding Ukrainian clubs in the summer.

Tete becomes the second signing of the month at King Power Stadium after Victor Kristiansen arrived from Copenhagen for £13.1m nine days ago.

He scored six goals and registered five assists in his 19 appearances for Lyon this season.

The Athletic revealed on Saturday that Leicester have also made an offer worth £20m for Leeds winger Jack Harrison as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his attacking options.

While Tete and Harrison are both attacking players, a centre-back is also viewed as a priority. Leicester retain an interest in Stoke City’s Harry Souttar who impressed for Australia at the 2022 World Cup.

They will have to move swiftly to wrap up any other business as the transfer window closes at 11pm GMT (6pm EST, 3pm PT) on Tuesday.
