Arsenal are awaiting further assessment before discovering the extent of Jordan Nobbs’ knee injury – although she will miss the rest of the club's season.

The midfielder was brought on from the bench in the weekend’s 7-0 win over Aston Villa on 73 minutes, lasting just 12 minutes before being replaced by Frida Maanum.

“Initially when we scanned it, (we found) unfortunately she is going to miss the rest of the season with Arsenal,” Eidevall said ahead of Wednesday’s north London derby — which Arsenal must win to stay in the title race.

“But it is an injury with ongoing assessment here with consultants during the week. We will know more after they’ve looked at it and we will have to wait and see.

“I know it’s a frustrating answer but it’s frustrating for us and mostly for Jordan not being able to participate at the end of the season. We can just hope it’s as good as possible.”

Arsenal are second in the WSL table, four points behind Chelsea, with a game in hand.

Is Nobbs’ absence a blow for Arsenal?

The 29-year-old started in just five of her 16 league appearances this season but will still be a major miss heading into the final two games of the campaign.

Facing Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, who will attempt to restrict space for Arsenal to exploit in behind, missing a creative player like Nobbs will hurt.

She played a crucial role in the back-end of the 2020-21 season to help secure Champions League football for Arsenal this year, showing the importance of strength in depth.

Arsenal and England will find some encouragement in the fact that Eidevall was not ready to rule Nobbs out of this summer’s Euros. The midfielder has had rotten luck with injuries heading into major tournaments recently, missing both last summer’s Olympics and the 2019 World Cup.
