In Albany Chaos, Humor Leavens the Serious
To the Editor:
I was flattered to receive top billing in your July 13 news article on the chaos that characterizes the end of New York State's legislative session. But my "cry for help" question -- "Paul, how do I vote?" -- was a joking remark to a colleague who was the sponsor of the bill in question and who obviously would recommend a "yes" vote. My comment was not a serious question for direction.
The article presented a graphic picture of the frantic last-minute rush to wind up the legislative session, a difficult but real part of the business of lawmaking. A little humor is not meant to show disrespect for that process, but rather to bring humanity to those high-pressured times.
