The Sony Corporation said yesterday that its chairman, Norio Ohga, had been hospitalized for sunstroke and would probably miss a meeting of United States and Japanese officials trying to resolve differences over semiconductor trade. Mr. Ohga, who is 66, began to feel ill while playing golf in Hawaii on Friday and checked into a hospital on Monday for tests after his return to Tokyo, the company said.

Mr. Ohga, who is also chairman of the Electronic Industries Association of Japan, will probably be hospitalized for about 10 days. He will not be able to attend a meeting on Saturday of United States and Japanese semiconductor industry officials, the company said. Last month, Mr. Ohga was hospitalized briefly after complaining of feeling ill, though the company said then that tests did not turn up anything unusual. (AP)
