Herman's Sporting Goods Inc., the retailer based in Carteret, N.J., won court approval yesterday to hold liquidation sales in all its stores. Gordon Brothers, a liquidation company based in Boston, plans to handle the sales, which should begin sometime after tomorrow, a company spokesman said. Squeezed by competition in the sporting goods industry, Herman's, which operates 117 stores in the Northeast, filed for bankruptcy protection late last month to provide for "an orderly liquidation of assets."
