LAUREL HOLLOW, L.I., Nov. 13 — Charles Edgar Ames, former investment banker, died last night in Huntington Hospital. He was 77 years old and lived here.
Mr. Ames, who retired in 1965, had been a limited partner of Kidder, Peabody & Co., and earlier a general partner of Kean, Taylor & Co.
He was formerly a governor of the Association of Stock Exchange firms and a director of the Kansas City Southern Railroad.
He was born in Boston and graduated from Harvard in 1917. In World War I he served in France as a lieutenant with the 103d Machine Gun Battalion, 26th Division, and received the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
In World War II he served in the Navy, rising to captain.
He was a former Mayor of Laurel Hollow and was the author of “Pioneering the Union Pacific — A Reappraisal of the Builders of the Railroad.” His avocation was sailboat racing.
Surviving are his widow, the former. Eleanor King; a son, Charles 0. Ames; two daughters, Mrs. David M. Abbot and Mrs. John W. Mattern, and seven grandchildren.
