Alfred Bersted, chairman of the executive committee of the McGraw‐Edison Company, manufacturer of small electric appliances and heavy industrial equipment, died in the Sherman Hospital, Elgin, Ill., Monday after an illness of several months. He was 73 years old.

Mr. Bersted Joined McGrawEdison in 1948 when the business he founded, the Bersted Manufacturing Company, became part of the larger company.

He was a member of the board of directors since 1949, became president In 1960 and chairman of the board in 1967. In April, 1970, he retired to become chairman or the executive committee.

He is survived by his widow, Grace; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Patterson; two grandchildren and a great‐granddaughter.
