WASHINGTON, March 30. -- "Possum Jerry" Smith, the gray-haired, dignified colored person who keeps bright the furniture and fixtures at the White House, and who was originally installed in the mansion as a cook by President Grant, who had knowledge of his skill in the preparation of toothsome dishes, especially terrapin, celebrated his silver wedding last night, and had as special guests of honor several members of the Cabinet.
