Home and Garden Television (HGTV) is a network that specializes in home improvement shows like "House Hunters," "Love It Or List It," "Fixer Upper," and others of that ilk. Anyone who has ever tuned into the channel can tell you that, first off, watching this stuff is incredibly addictive. You put on one little show and before you know it, you find yourself glued to the TV hours later, completely riveted by a brawny contractor busting down walls with a sledgehammer.

These shows tend to be just a trifle unrealistic. Whether it's a young married couple who inexplicably has a two million dollar budget to buy their own private island, or an interior designer who miraculously makes costly and time-consuming home renovations in what seems like a week and a half, it's hard to relate to most of HGTV's offerings.
