Great sectional JamieWe’ve had this sectional for about 4 months now and love it more and more each day! I was originally wanting gunnared beige, but that color wasn’t in stock for delivery to my address and wasn’t available at my local stores, so after much research decided to go a completely different direction with the kelinge gray-turquoise color - happy I went for it, its beautiful and we’ve received many compliments. Still hoping to get the gunnared beige sofa cover so that I can rotate it out every so often, but part of it still isn’t available for delivery at my location (I’m trying to be patient, but it’s a bit frustrating!) We have three young children with a fourth on the way and this sectional is more than enough space for all of us to lounge and snuggle. Very happy with this purchase, it feels very high quality for the price! As far as assembly, it takes a while, but I was able to do it all on my own within a few hours. 5
Perfect color, great shapeChristenaThe lines of the sofa are clean and timeless, blending in with any decor, 5
LOVE our custom Kivik sectionalHollyWe tried 2 couches before we purchased the Kivik. It is comfortable yet sturdy, loved the material options, and it works perfectly in our space thanks to the customized options to choose from. Also the coffee table also goes great in the space 5
Nice sturdy couchAutumnWe needed a sectional with a washable cover and this fit the bill. It’s sturdy and well built. The covers went on easily. The only negative was assembling the corner section. That took me way too long, but the rest of the couch came together easily. 5
So Disappointed in the Quality.LibbyWe purchased the Kivik 5 Seat sectional (with Tresund light beige slipcover) after deciding that we needed something larger than our beloved Ektorp sectional that had lasted 10 years. Having had such a wonderful experience with Ektorp (and several washable slipcovers), I assumed I would love the Kivik just as much. Sadly, I do not. The slipcover is awful. It’s one-sided, so it can’t be flipped. The material feels cheap and doesn’t soften with use…the only thing it does do is pill like crazy!! And the pills are impossible to remove. I use a fabric shaver on them and it still looks awful. The filler cushions are cheap and poor quality too. Once when I was washing the slipcovers, my dog stepped on a bare cushion and it put a hole in it! Tried to return everything to IKEA, but was outside the return window. They told me it was “normal wear and tear”. This feels like a quality control issue to me because I have never had such problems with my other purchases. So disappointed Ikea!1
Love the 5 seat sofa, wish the covers matched!BlytheReceived my 5 seat Kivik sofa yesterday. Put it together by myself. Am really pleased with it over all. But the covers for the long section are not the same as the Tibbleby gray of the short section/corner. I was thinking I could just hide the difference with pillows and throws, but it’s driving me crazy after only one day! I’d share a photo, but can’t for some reason.

Not the worst, but not worth itMelanieThis feels cheap. The fabric is rough, the color mottled. The corner seat is immediately sunken looking and the cushions slip. The back isn’t high enough for comfort and the arms are bizarrely low (my husband states it is designed to prevent napping). Ikea customer service was horrible throughout delivery process. Don’t spend your money on this, you can do better even at this price point. 2
Best couch!JenniferWe love this couch! So comfortable, sturdy, and nice looking. Great for naps.5
Just ughJohnNot liking this thing. Several hours to assemble. Cushions are hit or miss. Some are lumpy and uncomfortable, some have foam that is a few inches short or lopsided. Some are fine. Getting two lopsided and under-stuffed cushions replaced took many phone calls and hours of time. A week later received a replacement cover. Had to get back on the phone. Replacement cushions arrived 2 weeks after process started. They are lumpy and uncomfortable but are cut to the correct size this time. Not very happy.3
Don’t get the tibbleby - colors don’t matchRachelThe couch itself is ok, but buyer beware on the tibbleby beige/gray. We just put ours together last night and the cushions for the loveseat vs corner and sectional add on are two different colors. I looked on Reddit and it seems this is a common issue but Ikea keeps selling the covers. Despite people getting new covers in the same color, the problem persists. Now I have the joy of un assembling the couch, and getting new covers in a color I don’t like as much. Unfortunately the difference in color is not obvious until it’s put together and the two shades are next to one another. Really wish they’d pull the covers off the shelf and make ones that are a consistent shade. I wish the product actually looked as pictured.1
Wear like ironEllisHad the Sectional, 4-seat with chaise in anthracite for 10 years and just replaced with the 5 seat sectional. You do have to put the covers on which is a pain. The Gunnared Blue color is back so I had to order it right away! This is the best wearing couch for the money you will find. Ours still looks good, just need more seating space.5
Colors don’t matchMelanieLong story short, the covers on the tibbley beige/grey are different. The sofa is a darker shade while the corner section is lighter. We returned and purchased because there must have been a “change in manufacture and that’s why the color is different” So I purchased the sofa covers again and it’s still the same issue. I don’t understand why ikea is still selling these mismatched colors if there’s a manufacturer error. They need to be pulled off shelves so people like me don’t continue wasting their money and gas driving back and forth. Customer service in store is no help either.1
KivikNancyIt looks lovely, but is very hard and uncomfortable. They need to fill the cushions with a different material2
Nice and firm sectionalChristyThis sectional took about 6 hours to put together. Be prepared to iron the upholstery before covering the frame with it. We were not in a hurry because we wanted to make sure that everything fit correctly and looked it's best. We were pretty happy with th results. ☺️ Such a great couch! I've seen other reviews regarding how washable and durable it is so I hope that's true. We have 2 large dogs that haven't been allowed up because we are worried about tears. My son loves the corner seat because it is a bit slanted and so comfortable. We are big people and love the firmness. It was a little shorter than I expected but makes up for that in cushion length and width.5
Kivik 5 seat sectional LOVE ITAmandaReally hard to put together.. took us about 5 hours from start to finish, putting the cushion covers are TOUGH.
BUT. Totally worth it. It’s basically a custom sofa minus the price tag. I purchased two ottomans so we can have a movie night (myself plus 3 kids and a doggie) and we all fit perfectly with so much room to spare. We don’t worry about the dog being on the couch or kid spills because all of the covers are washable. Absolutely awesome.
Cushions are super firm to start. They get better and better each day.
I’ll update my review if anything negative should arise but as of now, I’m perfectly pleased and happy with the purchase.
I also asked for door delivery. Wasn’t missing anything!5
Kivik 5 seat sectional.MichelleKivik os amazing. Well built and beautiful. But for me uncomfortable. If you use a couch for lounging and sleep purposes to relax before bed. This is not comfy. It is well built to last though. The quality has not slipped its well built. The only issue I see is in the corner where it turns that middle seat that makes it a sectional is lower down than the whole couch. It's very odd. Makes it look odd.4
Fresh and effortlessJessieWe are loving our new couch! It looks fabulous in our space. It's a bit firm, but I'm sure over time it will break in a bit.5
So happyANTONELLASo happy5
Had this for years, bought a fancier couch, going back to the KivikSarahIncredibly comfortable, very durable. Great value.
We had the Kivik couch for 5 years of extremely hard use (4 roommates, two of whom are over 200lbs) and it remained comfortable until the end. We replaced it with a much more expensive sectional from Inside Weather, which we've had for about a year. It's SO uncomfortable, and after realizing that my husband and I were both choosing to sit on the hardwood floor instead of the couch, we decided to go back to this tried and true. Can't wait until we're relaxing on our new Kivik sectional.5
Too firm to be comfortableHelenThe pros:
- Great price for a 5 seat sectional
- It looks great
- Potentially washable covers
The cons:
It was pretty straightforward to put the frame together but the covers for the frame and especially the seat and back cushions were SO difficult to put on. I kept looking at the covers to make sure Ikea hadn’t put the wrong size covers in for the sofa style! I realize they have to fit snug to look smooth on the sofa, but it was really a struggle! I’m reluctant to take the covers off to wash them, which was a selling point! I’m worried they will shrink even after following washing instructions and I won’t be able to get them back on….they are so tight that the zips looks as if they will break!
I own 2 Karlstad sofas with their original washable covers that I’ve had for at least 15 years, and have never had a problem with regular washing and putting them back on.
The kivik cushions are very firm and the back cushions feel too stuffed to be comfortable. The floor model wasn’t as firm when I tried it before purchasing.
I’m hoping the cushions will get more “broken in” over time.
IKEA’s return policy is good but to take back a large, assembled sectional wouldn’t be easy for me to do.
I want to like it but it’s not comfortable to me or my family…3
