Positivity radiates from new mom Poppy Harlow, but you wouldn't know from her sunny disposition that things haven't always been bright for her. She lost her father when she was only 15, and she didn't get into her chosen law school, dashing her dream of following in his footsteps. She pivoted to journalism and now anchors CNN Newsroom, a daily news show from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET; spearheads the digital and TV series American Opportunity, which she started to shed light on disparities in income, race and gender in the U.S.; and hosts the podcast Boss Files With Poppy Harlow, on which she interviews extraordinary leaders around the world.

Truth teller: She believes in telling both sides of a story, a trait that's garnered her both acclaim and criticism. "I feel privileged that people trust me with their most painful and happy moments," says Poppy.

Kind cycle: Off-screen, she volunteers with the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club. "I want every child to have the opportunities I've had."

Personal motto: " 'Why not ask?' For a job, for an interview…I would not be where I am had I not just asked."

Best tip for moms: "Balance is a made-up word. That's not achievable and that's okay."

Power accessory: "My iPhone charger. I am lost without it."
